In this class, we will listen to and explore the music of four contemporary composers. We will explore the music of Steve Reich including his modern opera, The Cave which is about the 3 major religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

We will explore the music of Claude-Michel Schonberg and his music Miss Saigon, a modern interpretation of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.

We will also look at the music of John Adams and his modern opera, Nixon in China.

We will also explore other composers.
