In this class we will create a live HTML presence for each of you. After you have finished the class you will have your own web site with a simple HTML page and a small image gallery.

Session 1 (1/6/2010)

In this session we will register for a free web space, download and install a free editor and ftp program to create and upload our first web page. We will then upload a sample page to check if all works fine on the web site.

Session 2 (1/13/2010)

In this session we learn to create our first HTML page.

I will explain what HTML is and how it is used on the Internet (about 20 minutes)

We will then create our own HTML page in a text editor using basic elements like:
doctype
head
body

We will create some headings and text and will upload the page to your own web space to make the page public to everybody.

Session 3 (1/20/2010)

In this session we will learn how to design the HTML page with color and font. We will use CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) technology to do that.

First I explain what CSS is and how it is used (about 20 minutes)

Then we will add some design (color, font, font size) to the existing HTML page we made last week. We will learn how to split structure and design into separate files.

Session 4 (1/27/2010)

In this session we will add images to the HTML page. I will explain how images are added and displayed in the browser (about 20 minutes).

Then we will create a new HTML page to build a small image gallery. There we will learn how to align an image on the page and how to put text next to the image.
