About Class

This class will provide an overview of 10 Steps to Project Management Success, as described in the new eBook, The Project Management Minimalist: Just Enough PM to Rock Your Projects!

The purpose of this book is “to cut through the jungle of broad PM theory and sometimes arcane PM practices and help you acquire “just enough” PM discipline to get good results in your projects – without heaping on a bunch of burdensome PM stuff that can bury your projects in administrivia and smother the joy out of them.” Learn more about this book at:
http://michaelgreer.biz/?page_id=636

The specific 10 Steps covered in class include:
Step 1: Define the project concept, then get support and approval.
Step 2: Get your team together and start the project.
Step 3: Figure out exactly what the finished work products will be.
Step 4: Figure out what you need to do to complete the work products. (Identify
tasks and phases.)
Step 5: Estimate time, effort, and resources.
Step 6: Build a schedule.
Step 7: Estimate the costs.
Step 8: Keep the project moving.
Step 9: Handle scope changes.
Step 10: Close out phases, close out the project.

The class will examine each of these steps and show sample tools and artifacts that can help you accomplish them. In addition, we will examine some fundamental project management concepts, terms, and definitions.

Syllabus

Prerequisites

No project management experience or formal classes in project management are required to attend this class. It is aimed at new or part-time project managers.

Two things that might help you get more from the class are:
1) Pre-reading the ebook, “The Project Management Minimalist: Just Enough PM to Rock Your Projects!” You can review the table of contents and samples from this ebook (and purchase the entire 85-page ebook) at: http://michaelgreer.biz/?page_id=636 )

2) Reviewing and thinking deeply about your own project management experiences:
a) What has worked well for you in your work on formal project teams, and
b) What hasn’t worked so well… what you’d like to improve.
