7. Overview of steps to develop/implement CBE
The next six lessons provide comprehensive information and activities to develop new CBE based programs/courses or revise their current educational offerings. The six lessons will be offered in weekly sessions for $25/lesson. The major content of each lesson is:
Lesson 2: Essential elements of competency based education and addressing the question, “Why should we have competency based education programs and courses?”
Lesson 3: Processes essential to implementing a competency based education (CBE) program or course. Principles of education, active and interactive learning, and demonstration of competency at the end of an instructional course or program are addressed.
Lesson 4: Development of competency statements that address the needs of different learners.
Lesson 5: Specific steps to develop both objectives and performance assessments required to measure outcome competencies.
Lesson 6: Gathering individual assessment information, aggregating it, and organizing it for program or course outcome assessments.
Lesson 7: Importance of Competency Based Education in determining if educational outcomes have met the needs of learners, graduates, employers, and organizations.
A good knowledge of English language is essential as classes will be conducted entirely in English.
Students should have an interest in or experience with teaching in educational settings. It is also helpful to have developed and/or revised curricula or courses to share your experiences with other class members.
Being familiar with educational programs and courses will contribute to your understanding of why competency education is needed to improve student learning outcomes.
