Fingerspelling is spelling the English alphabet with handshapes.
Fingerspelling is fundamental in learning ASL because of the following reasons:
- Many signs uses certain letters of the words in English with the same meaning.
- Loan signs, which uses combination of fingerspelling and ASL movements.
- ASL does not have sign for every concept or words out there nor do signers know every sign out there either… When that is the case, fingerspelling is used. (Similar to the Japanese and kanji).
- Most importantly… It only takes fingerspelling to be able to hold a basic conversation with a deaf person.
I want to have 3 classes every three days, because if I set the classes too long apart between then you will forget the handshapes. Practice is crucial. The last class is to see how you did after a while without me :)

Caro said: aww *hugs Angela* it's alright, the 10th is supposed to be the session for me to check the results of the progress of the students. If not too many people join, I'll move the sessions to January. Doing this right in Christmastime is a bit of... I dunno, but hey Angela, if it gets popular too... I'll end up remaking it, eh? :) Or hold one to one session with me. posted 11 months ago
