Judith said: Aren't you going to tell us what that book is? The picture is too small to make it out. posted 6 months ago
Judith said: Thank you! :-) Amazon (which also has very mixed reviews of this book) says that this is not a book for beginners but rather students who have already completed the book "Alif Baa". What vocabulary and grammar structures do students need to know in order to start with these classes? posted 6 months ago
TheWhite said: you need only to master the alphabet, i do the rest.i think i mentioned that in the introduction. let amazon say what they like.
alif baa book deals with the alphabet and very few words, also the position of the word at the beginning, the middle and at the end of the word which i will cover in the course posted 6 months ago
TheWhite said: you need only the isbn number to get the exact same book, and the same edition posted 6 months ago
Yem said: Judith, These books are the standard widely used college text books used in US universities to teach Modern Standard Arabic. I have studied a one semester course (first 3-4 chapters only slow course) with this book. The 'Alif Baa' book by the same authors teaches the script first and in that sense a pre-requiisite (book #0) before you get this Book #1. While teaching the alphabet, the Alif Baa book uses vocab words which are helpful when you get to this book. If you have learned script from some other book, you may have to look up the dictionary at the back of the book more often when studying chapter 1, but after that you should be fine. When I studied with this book for a class, I had also learned the script elsewhere. (Though I did buy the Alif Baa book though to consult just in case I need it so I have looked through it). DVD also has Egyptian dialect pronunciation in addition to modern standard arabic. College student textbooks in US tend to be priced a bit higher higher than regular mass market books(captive market) - but it is usually a good investment if you end up learning from them. (No idea if these books are any better/worse than any others!)

TheWhite said: valuable information mr. yen, thank you , but if the student does not know the Arabic script, then it is my responsibility to teach him or her. i have been teaching Arabic and english for few years now. i have used several books before, but i found that alkitab1,2,and 3 are the best among 5 books i have used before, but thanks anyhow posted 6 months ago

patrick said: Come join us for book 1 of Alkitaab. I have sat in on one of the teachers other classes and am looking foward to learning Arabic from someone with so much experience. This is a great chance for great instruction using a great book. The teacher creates a very comfortable learning atmosphere and is trully dedicated to serving his students even by email in between classes.

patrick said: I just finished another class with Ustadh Abdul Halim and encourage anyone learning Arabic to join us. Take it from someone who is learning through many different forms that nothing beats personal interaction with people who truly know the language and have experience teaching it to non-native speakers. The classes taught by this teacher are a priceless addition to anybodys quest to learn Arabic. If you want to ask anything about the classes I have taken on edufire just message me. Alhamdu lillah! posted 3 months ago

Mr said: I'm extremely sorry everyone.
I will not be able to attend class on Saturday. My wife's boss died and we must attend her funeral. It will be taking place tomorrow Aug Saturday 8th at 11am. I am keeping up with my studies and already am half way through the alif baa book. I redid the whole book a few times to make sure I master it.
Again I'm extremely sorry and I will be making up for this.
Salam
