This is part two of three classes aimed at getting you from zero Japanese knowledge to something just a little more comfortable. It’s that first step that’s really tough right? I’ll make it really easy on you.

In the previous class, we learn about studying hiragana. Since we’re not quite ready to read and write in hiragana, we’ll be doing this class in ROMAJI, so anyone can feel free to attend and won’t be left behind (definitely check out the hiragana class, though! Makes it easy and free if you’re a SuperPass Subscriber).

In this class, we’ll start learning some very basic grammar forms, using nouns. A lot of Western language speakers have a tough time wrapping their heads around Japanese grammar structure. At least when it comes to very basic grammar, like what we’re learning in this class, Yoda simplifies this process tenfold.

After this class, you will be able to say and understand:

It is a ________.
It isn’t a ________.
Is it a _______?
Isn’t it a ________?
It was a ________.
It wasn’t a _________.
It was a ________?
It wasn’t a ________?

It may not seem like much, but with those sentences you are laying the foundation to learn more difficult grammar and sentence structure. Also, the only thing holding you back is vocabulary! Think of the hundreds of thousands of things you could say or ask about, and all you need is a dictionary to look up nouns. If you travel to Japan, you can get a long way with only this (though of course, you should keep on learning!).
