Iran is a nation easily misunderstood. Its people are unique, its early history is world-changing, and its politics, as of late, have captured the attention of people across the globe.
This session is designed to familiarize you with the steps that led up to the most recent developments that have scored headlines.
We will answer the following questions:
»Who is an Iranian citizen?
»How did Iran come to interact with the west?
»As a nation, what are Iran’s priorities?
»What regimes have led the nation over the last 100 years?
»How have international relations with Iran been for the last 30 years?
»What occurred in the most recent election?
For the last part of the class, I will pose some hypothetical situations for Iran’s future. Using what they have learned, students will discuss their predictions for the next step in the history of a people that has shaped the Middle East.
An optional reading list will be available no later than four days before the class. By all means, contact me with questions about the content of the class or sources for more information.
