Japanese is one of the languages that a) is mostly taught by women, and b) has both masculine and feminine portions to the language. This means that if you primarily learn from a female teacher, there’s a decent chance that you’re picking up some feminine Japanese patterns. If you’re learning mostly from a male teacher, then vice versa. There are definitely times where it’s important to know how to speak “properly.”
While I don’t think it’s entirely important to stress out about this as a beginning student of Japanese, it is important to know that exists, and be able to recognize some of these patterns. In this class we’ll be going over a few different things:
1. The shocking history of masculine / feminine language in Japanese.
2. How masculine / feminine language is treated in Japanese
3. A language lesson about male / female speech patterns, so that you can try to use them in your Japanese.
At the end of the class I’ll provide a “masculine/feminine Japanese” cheatsheet for you that you can print out and take wherever you go (because I know that’s something you’ve wanted to do forever!).
Level of Class: Although some of the topics are somewhat advanced, I’ll present it in a way that all levels of Japanese language students can gain a lot from it. Welcome all!
Feel free to message me if you have any questions.
For paying for this class, I’d recommend SuperPass which gets you unlimited classes (like this one) for only $29 a month. That’s a dirty little secret between you and me, though.
