Learning Hiragana and Katakana is vital to your progress in Japanese. Just as is true with the oft quoted “R and L” mistake in Japanese, the Japanese have certain sounds that cannot be produced in English.
Understanding these sounds will vastly improve your listening comprehension, speech production, and (less apparently) provide a look into the Japanese psyche. Moreover, it will soften your transition into writing Kanji (Chinese characters) as you will have an understanding of stroke order and proper shaping.
The class will open with 3 weeks of HIragana study and conclude with a 2 week session in Katakana. In five weeks you will have conquered the first hurdle towards being literate in Japanese. THE CLASSES ARE ROTATING and students can feel free to come in at any point as each class will focus only on the kana for that particular day
Each week the schedule will vary, but generally we will learn 3 to 4 columns of kana per day, with space for questions at the end.
