This is a repeat of my structured 6 week course, Japanese for Absolute Beginners. This time compressed in to 6 weeks of lectures plus a bonus Sayonara Party in the 7th week!

Conversation practice for concepts learnt in this class happen in the companion class Japanese Language Lab for Absolute Beginners.

If you have done one of my courses before and started late, we are going to start again from the very beginning. I’d be happy to see you again!

If you are new to Japanese, we are going to start from the basics. There is no need to know any Hiragana or Katakana, just bring plenty of enthusiasm!

The classes cover the following topics:

• Introductions
• Where you are from
• Your job
• Your family
• Asking for help with new words
• Where things are
• The things you have
• The food you like
• The things you like doing
• Shopping for clothes
• Places around town
• Ordering food

By the end of the course you should be able to:

• Ask for help and clarification when needed
• Give stock responses to basic introductory questions
• Make basic statements about yourself, job, family and where you live
• Name basic everyday objects, activities and jobs
• Respond to basic introductory questions and produce simple stock phrases without hesitation
• Understand basic questions and instructions
