Happy Diwali!!

Now for today’s lesson from Suresh:

हिरन्यकश्यप राक्षसों के राजा थे | Hiranyakashyap rakshason ke raja tthey. Hiranyakashyp was the king of the asuras (demons).

हिरन्यकश्यप के भाई को देवी और देवताओं को आतंकित करने के वजह से भगवान् विष्णु द्वारा मार दिया गया | Hiranyakashyap ke bhaai ko devi aur devtaaon ko aatankit karney ke vajah se bhagwaan Vishnu dwara maar diya gaya | Hiranyakashypu’s brother had been slain by Vishnu for terrorising gods and goddess .

इसलिये, हिरन्यकश्यप विष्णु को नष्ट करना चाहता था | Isliye, Hiranyakashypu Vishnu ko nasht karna chahta ttha. Therefore, Hiranyakashypu wanted to destroy Vishnu.

वह अपने को सबसे शक्तिशाली समझता था और चाहता था कि लोग उसकी पूजा करें | Vah apney ko sabse shaktishaali samajhta ttha aur chahta ttha ki loge uski pooja karein. He used to consider himself the most powerful and wanted people to worship him.

हिरन्यकश्यप की पत्नी (रानी) एक महान महिला थी | Hirnyakashyap ki patni (Rani)ek mahhan mahila tthee. Hirnyakashya’s wife (queen)was a noble woman.

नारद मुनि ने रानी को सिखाया कि विष्णु सभी बनाए गए चीजों की आत्मा हैं और हर जगह मौजूद हैं | Naarad muni ne rani ko sikhaya ki Vishnu sabhi banaaye gaye cheejon ki aatma hain aur har jagah maujood hain. The hermit, Narada taught the Queen that Vishnu is the soul of all created things and is present everywhere.

हिरन्यकश्यप ने गंभीर तपस्या करना शुरू किया और ब्रह्मा भगवान् खुश हुए और कहा कि “पूछो कोई वरदान, जो तुम्हारा हो जाएगा”| Hiranyakashyp ney gambheer tapasya karna shuroo kiya aur Brahma bhagwaan khush huey aur kaha ki “poocho koi vardaan, jo tumhaara ho jayega”.

Hiranyakashyp began to perform severe penances and pleased Brahma and said that “ask any boon which shall be yours".

हिरन्यकश्यप ने कहा कि मैं चाहता हूँ कि मेरी मौत का कारण आदमी या जानवर, एक हथियार या बिना हथियार के , दिन या रात के दौरान , घर के अंदर या बाहर और धरती या आकाश में नहीं होना चाहिए | Hiranyakashyp ne kaha ki main chahta hun ki meri maut ka karan aadmi ya jaanwar, ek hathiyaar ya bina hatiyaar ke, din ya raat ke dauraan, ghar ke andar ya baahar aur dharti ya aakaash mein nahin hona chahiye.

Hiranyakashyap said I wish that my death should be not caused by man or beast, with a weapon or without a weapon, during day or night, indoors or outdoors and on earth or in the sky.

प्रहलाद हिरन्यकश्यप का पुत्र था | Prahlaad Hiranyakashyap ka putra ttha. Prahlaad was Hiranyakashyap’s son.

प्रहलाद भगवान् विष्णु का परम भक्त था | Prahlad Bhagwaan Vishnu ka param bhakt ttha. Prahlaad was staunch devotee of Lord Vishnu .

हिरन्यकश्यप को भगवान् से सख्त नफरत थी | Hiranyakashyp ko bhagwaan sey sakh nafrat tthee. Hiranyakashyp had too much hatred towards god.

हिरन्यकश्यप ने प्रहलाद को भगवान की प्रार्थना न करने की सलाह दी | Hiranyakashyp ney Prahlaad ko bhagwaan ki praarthana n karney ke salaah dee. Hiranyakashyp advised Prahlaad not to pray God.

प्रहलाद न माना | Prahlaad n maana . Prahlad did not agree(refused) .

हिरन्यकश्यप क्रोधित हो उठा | Hiraniyakashyap krodhit ho utha. Hiraniyakashyap got angry .

सबसे घातक साँप प्रहलाद पर छोड़ दिए गए | Subsey ghaatak saanp Prahlaad par chhod diye gaye. Most deadly snakes were let loose on Prahlad.

उसे ज़हर दिया गया . Usey jahar diya gaya. He was given poison.

प्रहलाद को हाथियों द्वारा कुचल कर मार देने के कोशिश की गई और पहाड़ों से धक्का दे दिया गया लेकिन वह नहीं मरा |Prahlaad ko hathiyon dwara kuchal kar maar deney ki koshish kee gayee aur pahadon sey dhakka de diya gaya , lekin vah mara nahin. Prahlad was tried to be trampled by the elephants and was pushed from the mountains but he did not die.

भगवान विष्णु ने हमेशा उसकी रक्षा की | Bhagwaan Vishnu ney humesh uski raksh kee. God Visnhu always protected him.

हिरन्यकश्यप ने अपनी बहन होलिका को बुलवाया और कहा कि प्रहलाद को लेकर अग्नि में प्रवेश कर जाओ | Hiraniyakashyap ney apni bahan Holika ko bulwaaya aur kaha ki Prahlaad ko lekar agni mein pravesh kar jaaon. Hiranyakashyap summoned his sister and said take Prahlad and enter into the fire.

होलिका को वरदान प्राप्त था कि वह आग में भी जल कर कभी नहीं मरेगी | Holika ko vardaan praapt ttha ki vah aag se jal kar kabhi nahin maregi . Holika was blessed that she would never die of burns in fire.

वह प्रहलाद को लेकर आग में बैठ गयी लेकिन प्रहलाद को कुछ न हुआ | Vah Prahlaad ko lekar aag mein baith gayi lekin Prahlaad ko kuch na hua. She sat in fire taking Prahlad but nothing happened to Prahlaad |

होलिका जल कर मर गयी | Holika jal kar mar gayi. Holika died of burns.

भगवान विष्णु ने अपना चमत्कार फिर दिखलाया | Bhagwaan Vishnu ney apna chamatkaar phir dikhlaaya. Lord Vishnu again demonstrated his miracle

इस प्रकार हिरन्यकश्यप आग बबूला हो गया | Is prakaar Hiranyakashyap aag babula ho gaya. Thus Hiranyakashyap terribly got angry.

जब हिरन्यकश्यप ने प्रहलाद को तलवार से काट देना चाहा तब भगवान् विष्णु ने नरसिंह का अवतार लेकर , हिरन्यकश्यप को अपने जांघ पर बैठाकर अपने नखों से उसका पेट फाड़ डाला | Jab Hiranyakashyap ney Prahlaad ko talwaar se kaat dena chaha tab Bhagwaan Vishnu ney Narsingh ka avatar lekhar, Hirnayakashyap ko apney jaangh par baithakar apney nakhon se uska payt faad daala.

When Hiranyakashyap wanted to cut Prahlad with the sword, then Lord Vishnu taking the incarnation of Narasimha , made Hiranyakashyap sit on his thigh, tore off his stomach with his nails.

इस प्रकार हिरन्यकश्यप की मौत हो गयी | Is prakaar Hiranyakashyap ki maut ho gai. Thus Hiranyakashyap died.

इसलिये होलिका दहन मनाया जाता है | Isliye, Holika dahan manaaya jaata hai. Hence, Holika dahan is celebrated.

होली का त्योहार दंभ, स्वार्थ, लोभ, घृणा , वास्तव में, सभी अवांछनीय विचारों के ख़त्म होने के सम्बन्ध में मनाया जाता है | Holi ka tyohaar dambh, swarth, lobh, ghrina, vastav mein, sabhi avvanchneey vicharon key khatm honey ke sambandh mein manaaya jaata hai.

Holi festival is celebrated in relation to the burning of conceit, selfishness, greed, hatred, in fact all the undesirable thoughts .

Homework: Please share a story in Hindi (with transliteration and translation)on another local festival, indicating its purpose of celebration.
