Bal Diwas (Children’s Day), today i.e. 14th Nov. 2009 reminds me of Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru’s Birthday.
A great freedom-fighter, Bharat Ratna, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was born on 14th Nov.1889 to Mrs. Swaroop Rani and. Mr. Motilal Nehru who was a barrister. They were Kashmiri Brahmin, settled in U.P i.e. Allahabad (where the Triveni sangam is there the Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati, at Prayag conjoin together), I understand that the current of Saraswati river under flows, cannot be seen. Anand Bhawan was their Residence; I understand that now it is a museum. He had two sisters, Krishna and Vijaylakshmi Pandit. They all learned Hindi, Sanskrit and English. .
In the young age, he also became a lawyer 1912 after completing his graduation abroad .i.e U.K. . Due to Jaliawalabagh Massacre in 1919 by British, he was outraged and joined the f India’s freedom struggle movement alongwith Mr. Gandhi and other stalwarts. He followed the path of Mahatma Gandhi,
Mr. Nehru married Kamla in 1916.Later she gave birth of Indira. When Mr. Pundit Lal Nehru was arrested by British; Kamla Nehru lent an excellent moral support. Mr. Nehru wrote several letters to his daughter Indira Priyadarshini from the prison of which one letter was much talked about .I do not remember the contents now . From, prison he wrote few books, the Discovery of India was famous one, 1946. Kamala Nehru died in 1936 due to TB.
He was the creator of India, rather independent India. He was our First Prime Minister. Mr. Nehru used to love children. Hence the Bal Divas) is celebrated on account of his birthday every year Thus he was known as Chacha (Uncle)Nehru. Mr. Nehru was fond of Rose flower. Indian became independent on 15th Aug. 1947, when he first flag hoisting of Independent India took place.. Unfortunately,.Gandhiji was shot dead in 1948. In 1951 planning commission of India was set up. First five year plan was announced. He was instrumental in birth of IIT, AIIMS, IIM, famous educational institutions in India... In 1961 Chinese attacked India. He was shocked. His health started deteriorating. He died of heart attack in 1964. .Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru held the position of Prime Minister till 1964 when he died (consecutively for 17 years)
The Nehru family holds a distinction of having provided top national leadership for four successive generations: Jawaharlal's father, Sri Motilal Nehru, was the leader of the Swaraj Party, the parliamentary wing of the Congress, in the 1930s; Mr. Nehru’s lone daughter, Smt. Indira Gandhi was India's Prime Minister (assassinated in 1984), his grandson, Rajiv Gandhi,(assassinated) was the Prime Minister during 1984–89.
I recall my primary school days during 1960-66 when I used to participate in early morning –March past (Prabhaat Ferries). We used to get toffess, lozens etc. in school on account of his birthday. On 14th November.
Every Indian is indebted to this great personality. Jai Hind.
