If you want it I can tell you on Edufire the etymology of your name (when I am sure of my information).
And why not ? We can later open a special session ?

GARRAUD : First see your name here http://www.geopatronyme.com/cgi-bin/carte/nomcarte.cgi?nom=garraud&submit=Valider&client=cdip

GARRAUD is a Germanic first name that became a French surname. Etymologically it comes from WARIN-WALT “protection-power” whose roots are found in modern English in WARN and WIELD.
Like for GARCIA in Spain the initial Germanic W- was transformed into initial G- .
WARINWALT > WARNALD > GARRAUT
The internal transformation of RN into RR is a called ASSIMILATION in phonetics.

Miss KIMM ! First I must have some information about your ancerstor’s geographical origin. I am speaking here about your grandfather KIMM. Where was he from ?

I suspect Korea, but it has always been said that he was from China and came to Australia around 1850’s. It is not known if Kimm is his first or last name. I think perhaps Korea because “Kim” is a popular last name there. As for my actual grandfather, he is Australian, as was his parents. And I’m as white as a ghost.

I would love to know what you can dig up Patrick!

I found 김 = KIM in Korean with the Chinese correspondant 金 JIN “Gold”.
As a family name KIM (with one M) is a clan name meaning 金 JIN “Gold”.
But as a simple word 김 = KIM means more or less “spirit”. But you should ask what a Korean speaker feels. Maybe he feels nothing at all :-)

Everybody ! Please, don’t forget to give me the geographical origin of your name ! This is very important for me because many names can be homophones or homonyms.
1 WALLIN ? where is it from if you know. Thanks !
2 GOMEZ : Wisigoths occupied Spain during 300 years. Their language was Germanic.
3 KOICHI :-) Only a question of experience + time : I am searching for 50 years my son :-)
4 노 지영 = NO JI YEONG : NO is a Clan name corresponding in Chinese to 老 = LAO = OLD = equivalent of respect as LORD or LADY. JI YEONG is used as translation for JANET/JOHN so seems to be a Christian name. JI has no special meaning and is used only as a syllab. YEONG has the meaning of SPIRIT. But maybe you know more ?
