What is everyone’s favorite foreign film? Any good suggestions? My favorites are: France: Amelie |
Italy: Nuovo cinema Paradiso |

It would have to be ‘Wings of Desire’ from Dir. Wim Wenders. It’s a German movie. |

Thanks for your replies! I can’t wait to see your suggestions! |

I LOVE Korean movies!!! You guys should watch one sometime! They’re really good, lol. I’d have to say that my favorite foreign films are: |

I’m a big fan of asian movies (all types). China : Infernal affairs (one of the best thriller ever made for me) Voila. |

My fav world/indie film is Les Glaneurs et la Glaneuse (The Gleaners and I) ~ a documentary written & directed by Agnès Varda, a “docu pioneer” and the mother of French New Wave cinema. One critic calls The Gleaners “an elliptically subtle and beautifully evocative portrait of how one man’s trash becomes another man’s treasure.” But it’s about more than recycling! This compelling film takes viewers deep into the psyches of the interviewees and the filmmaker. |

@DJ: This one sounds very interesting!!! Hopefully I can find it at the video store! |

We have the same taste in movies Valerie. Amelie is an absolute favorite and Run Lola Run makes you think, ya? I recommend the movies Chungking Express (Chinese), Malena (Italian), Magnifico (Filipino), and The Last Princess (Japanese) – the remake. Chungking Express has similarities with Amelie, except, well, you gotta find out! The Italian and Filipino films are dramas—they’re really good =) The Japanese one is a comedy-adventure~ |

Any movie with Audrey Tatou is great. (except The Da Vinci code….the book was soooo much better). |
So you’ve seen A Very Long Engagement? (not definite that that’s the exact title)…. |
Yann, I liked My Sassy Girl also, haha. I thought it was really funny. I also forgot about these other ones: I thought that the last one was really cute (: Lol. |
Yes, the Audrey Tatou film Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain is amazing! I always wonder why reviewers call Amélie an “innocent and naive” young woman. LOL @Jiyoung: Thanks for crunchyroll! I’ll check it out. |
Oh, I forgot to mention: He loves me, He loves me not w/ Audrey Tatou. It’s a MUST SEE! I promise that you guys will LOVE it. It’s one of those movies with a cool twist at the end. |
Cool! Great movies and I’ll check them out next year or sooner. : ) Awesome thread Valerie!! |
Yes! Love Amelie and City of God. My favorite foreign films are Life is Beautiful, Totsi, and Malena. |

I’m a huge fan of the Tartan Asia Extreme movie collection. This includes Battle Royale (Japan), and the trilogy including Oldboy (Korea). I also love Chinese movies, especially the one’s pertaining to the Cultural Revolution era. These include To Live and Farewell My Concubine. |

@Angie…..Please share some good Brazilian movies!!! |

The Korean film The King and the Clown is a wonderful movie IMHO. Waterboys is a hysterical and lovable Japanese movie…. Why not get started with Asian doramas too, Valerie? Highly addicting. If you need any recommendations on them, I’ll be happy to give loads of them~ LOL. |

@Katherine. I’m all ears! I have 2 weeks vacation…..and I don’t plan on leaving my house! |

For dramas, you should check http://wiki.d-addicts.com. |

Valerie…. to get you started, I present to you the Korean drama: Coffee Prince! http://www.mysoju.com/the-1st-shop-of-coffee-prince/episode-1/part-1/ =) LOL. Once you get hooked, you’ll naturally branch out Japanese and Taiwanese dramas. To find out more, watch Koichi’s video about this addiction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdqAo9cgxYI =) |
@Katherine: I am dying from laughter after watching Koichi’s youtube clip! He is hilarious! The link that you sent about Coffee Prince is no longer working. This might be a stupid question, but can you tell me what a “dorama” is? I have never heard of the term, but you have got me super interested! |
Oh my! I apologize for the dead link! As for what “dorama” means, it’s just how the Japanese call their “dramas” (drama=do-ra-ma). It’s an umbrella term for all genres. But it does get addictive. Since I can’t find Coffee Prince (Korean), then I’ll give you my #1 dorama — Hana Yori Dango =) http://www.mysoju.com/hana-yori-dango/episode-1/part-1/ |
Ok….so I just watched the first episode! I’m hooked. One of the F4 boys is kinda cute. Holler! LOL |
