AGGGGGHHH

…hair.

On my head.

Grows up.

Like a poof.

A POOF! A poof… XD A poof.

I wish it would grow down… does anyone know how to genetically alter the way my hair grows? (Or any other way, really. Though I doubt it’s possible. :I )

There is a chemical straightner available in some markets (in Brazil for ex.). My sis was pretty critical about her hair (like all of us), she did it and loves the result, her hair went from whatever mess it was before to a superstraight, frizz free healthy looking her.The result lasts way way longer .

if your hair is dry and a bit frizzy,(im just assuming) head and shoulders silk always works! dont ask me how i know :p

if you are to lazy and cheap to buy that. get yourself a beanie and use in around the house and when you go to bed. you can say it helps with poof-iness it basically compacts all your hair xD

Haha talk about random Dante.

To me it sounds like you generally have a perm-ish hair style thing going on, Straighten it for the most part but if you want to keep it down for a longer time chemical straightner or you can try a more convinient method.

Wet your hair and then get a hairclip or bobby pin and pin your hair down with it for a few hours, Your hair will start growing that way instead of it’s original way. You could also ge— wax or clay, neverrrrrrr use gel, it’s horrible and it gunks up your hair and blocks all the pores on your scalp D:

well, I don’t think that a chemical straightener will do much better….

A chemical Straightener will make your hair straight though regardless of the weather/conditions unless you have frizz problems and it won’t destroy your hair or block the pores :)

Thanks Angela, I appreciate that :)

I chemically straightened my hair for 15 years and it was horrible! It burns your scalp and can actually burn off your hair if it’s not done by a professional. Now I just straighten my hair with a blow dryer and flat iron and even thought its not as healthy as no heat, its alot better than permanent chemicals.

I would also recommend tying your hair down with a satin scarf at night. It wont permanently change your hair growth pattern but it will tame it in the morning.

But NO CHEMICALS!!!!! Chemicals are ok short term but HORRIBLE long term.

Um, Dante, we have the same hair.

I’ve been fighting this long enough, I’ve finally given in and just cut it short.

Hey Dante,

I totally understand where you are coming from. I have the Poofiest hair….not curly, not wavy but FRIZZY!! I have tried everything and honestly nothing works permantely. Chemical straighteners- do dry your hair out and that just amplifies the poofy-ness.

I have found the only way my hair remains controlled is to invest time with the flat iron and money for the straightening and heat tolerant oils/gels I put on my hair! It sucks :)

Hey, for those of you worried about the effects of gel: I use aloe vera gel. Yep, that stuff you buy for sunburn. It’s organic and safe and washes out very cleanly. No harm, no fuss—and it’s pretty cheap around here. If it’s hard to find in wintertime, in summer buy two or three bottles of it and keep it in the cabinet.

Try hair rebonding. It’s expensive, takes 3-6 hours to process, and you can’t tuck your hair behind your ears or tie it together for 30 days, but after that, you’ll have straight hair….

Hi Dante. I know exactly how you feel. But, I must say that I just can’t recommend chemical relaxers. Not only will you break down the hair shaft, you’ll also take away the versatility that curly/frizzy hair has. Take it from me, when I had a chemical relaxer, there were numerous times I had wished for a little bit of my natural curl back.

Try blow drying your hair straight using, ahhh, I can’t remember the name, but there’s a product that The Body Shop has that’s specifically for that.

Also, are you deep conditioning your hair? I highly recommend a product called Queen Helene’s Cholesterol Conditioner. It’s a heavy product, which will help weigh your hair down a tad. Goop it on your hair, leave it for about an hour (perhaps put a shower cap or something on), then wash it out. It works wonders. You can find it at places like Walgreens, WalMart and so on. You will probably need to look in the black hair care sections to find it.

I hope this helps.

Dante, when you next go to the hairdressers you should ask to have your hair thinned and layered as well. I don’t have naturally curly hair but get that done, straighten it and then use wax or clay to keep it that way.

I swear by Gatsby’s spiky edge product,

@Arky: What does thinning and layering your hair do?

@Rashunda: Yes, I am conditioning my hair, first with a Garnier Fructis conditioner in the shower, then that washes out, and then there’s another bottle of something my hairdresser suggested… I put that in my damp hair and then comb it, then leave it.

Try the Queen Helene as a conditioner. Also, how about not combing your hair when you put the second product in? Combing curly hair, especially with a fine-tooth comb if you’re using that, can cause frizzies. Try combing the first conditioner through your wet hair, wash out, then apply the second product and let air dry.
