I just put this idea up click here

How about some sort of referral scheme for both students and teachers? E.g. For every x number of students a user gets to register who then goes on to take classes the user who recommended them gets points. These can be exchanged for voucher codes for ‘free’ classes or something else. We could also have some sort of league where you can see who has gotten the most students to join (although making this public may not be a good thing) or even mention it in the newsletter. Referrals can be recorded by the sign-up process asking who recommended them or something along those lines.

Would love your input, thanks.

It sounds like multi-level marketing!
I think, that if we seek quantity of new users on eduFire, we might lose thier quality.

How can you lose the quality of a student? Heck how do you measure such a thing? The more students the better. Those that want lessons will have them and those that don’t, won’t. No difference to now.

I think it’s a great idea.

Marco, I understand what you are saying and I agree that the more students we have here, the better, if for no other reason than what is sometimes known as “the shotgun effect.”

However, I think I understand what Evgeniy is saying, too. If by “quality” he means students who are really here to focus on learning something and not simply loading up on the free classes, I can see where he’s coming from. I don’t necessarily agree, but I believe I understand.

Hey, without offence!
I think people would be eager to get free-lesson-codes and ask their friends to sign up on eduFire. So, it might happen that we will have a lot of people here who want nothing and they will be just as statistic. I like the idea to attract new users, but who will really use this source of knowledge!

No offence taken or even considered! :)

I think you’ve missed the important element. It isn’t just getting people to sign up, those that sign up then have to take (and pay for) lessons. So whether somebody gets 25 friends to sign up is actually irrelevant, those new users would have to pay for lessons which means money to tutors.

It is no different, whatsoever, to what is happening now except we’d be encouraging existing happy customers to spread the word. Some will be paying students and some won’t, just as we have now. I think every organisation I know of does it. Again, it isn’t the number of people that register, it’s whether those people become active users. If I recommend a hundred users and they all register but none of them take a lesson, I get nothing. So nobody can “load up” on free classes.

Hey can you imagine me saying to 5 friends, can you all buy a lesson with a tutor please because if all 5 of you do I get a free class? They’ll tell me to take a hike. :)

I can’t see anything other than genuine students coming from this.

Thanks for all your thoughts so far. I did mention about a league table but that was just an after-thought. It may not be something that people would like to be made public.

My idea though is purely about spreading the word to students who want to learn and take lessons. It is not about getting students here who do not want to learn as they would after all have to pay for lessons so they would be serious in the first place. The reward would be a thank you from eduFire for bringing new students to take lessons. We get rewarded for time taken to introduce someone new here, the student gets to learn their desired subject and the teacher gets paid. Everybody wins!

If we speak about ACTIVE users, I vote FOR this idea.

Thanks:)

@Debbie- I think your ideas are always great! I already voted for it on the Idea board! I think it would be a great idea to attract more students! You are right, it is a win-win situation for everyone!

Hi Enrique! My idea is for students who pay for lessons, not for free lessons. So for example, if your referred 2 people here who wanted to learn a language and they took paid lessons, you would receive a free lesson or something else (T-shirt for example maybe)

@Valerie Thank you so much for the vote and comments!
@Evgeniy Absolutely it would be attracting only active users. :)

Totally agree with you Enrique – this idea is not about that, which makes it fabulous! :)

Yes, though this thread is not related to 1:M at all.

I love the idea Debbie. Yes, some users who are referred won’t remain active, but it’s no different than what happens now. Not everyone who joins will actively participate in the community and lessons. It’s a numbers thing though, the more students who join, the more that will be actively involved.

I love your idea Debbie! I’ll go and vote! ;)

And I also agree with Christina – it’s logical that an increased numer of students on the whole will mean an increase in paying students…. :)
