How can you tell that you are addicted to eduFire?

1) The first thing you do every morning is check your eduFire Inbox.
2) You stalk the “classes recently added” tab.
3) You were one of the first people to signup for SuperPass.
4) Your Skype list is mostly people you’ve met on eduFire.
5) Your Twitter and Facebook accounts have a large amount of people you know that use eduFire.
6) You have a student account and a teaching account, and switch back and forth many times in a day.
7) You are very tempted to change all passwords connected to your email address to “edufire” because you are in the habit of logging into classes like that.
8) You learned HTML and Flash basics in about an hour to pimp your profile page and your class description pages.
9) You’ve considered sending a message to Adobe for having to do “System Maintenance” for three and a half hours when you were booted from a class and couldn’t go to your next one either.
10) You are actually way better at the language you are learning than you were when you first joined because you’ve taken 100’s of classes already.
11) You have a folder on your desktop called “Shortcut to eduFire” containing over 275 MB of notes you took in classes. They are organized by teacher names and by class names.
12) You become way more sympathetic to your significant other’s passion for long hours of online gaming. He/she may even start to tell you that you are “on eduFire too much.”

What things have you done that make you wonder if you are an eduAddict and may be in need of rehab?

Lauren, I love this list! I can only hope to one day aspire to the greatness that is the eduAddict.

I think #7 is gold! (Be careful though, don’t want to get hacked! :P)

I was so addicted that had to come here less and less often for a long while. Now I will restart to approach the eduFire forum, but I will try not to spend hours posting, or I won’t have time to study…. I love even to study on my own, not only in classes…. Maybe it’s not popular here, but this is the way I am!

I matched all the points above.:) Including these 3 points below:
1. I check on eduFire first thing in the morning even before I make my first cup of coffee.
2. I have an eduFire file (bought from Target) on my shelf.
3. I use wifi to browse eduFire from every airport and hotel.

Oh I’ve got more where this came from:

13) Your idea of a fun night with friends is “class hopping.”
14) You’ve taken up to three classes at once cause they were all too good to miss.
15) You’ve used your laptop and cellphone as a modem so that you can still take classes when traveling.
16) You trade bodily functions like eating and sleeping for back to back classes.

17) You learn to do things that you previously found repugnant and swore you would never steep that low. But soon you are learning to use Twitter or FaceBook.

18) You find the Internet much more interesting now that a game you like is being played online. Now you have to convince others that learning is enjoyable; just like a game.

I can go on and on… Here’s more.

19) Someone you first meet tells you they didn’t read through your whole list of “classes taken” on your profile because “they have a life.” But you watch and chuckle as their list of classes starts to grow at exponential rates.

20) You’ve convinced your best friend to start using eduFire so you don’t have to make excuses why you are on so much and not hanging out with him/her. Actually he/she didn’t need much convincing at all since his/her interests are similar to yours.

21) Many of your good friends live halfway across the world, and you always know exactly what time it is where they live so that you can contact them at an appropriate time. Your conversations somehow always lead back to eduGossip.

22) You have an additional account for your “alter ego” for when you don’t feel like being “yourself” that day.

23) You reload posts you make to the forums sometimes more than 5 times an hour to see who has responded.

24) You reload your class pages sometimes more than 10 times an hour to see who else has signed up. You’ve signed up for Internet browsing on your cellphone to be able do this when you are away from the computer.

25) You’ve brainstormed a mathematical formula with an eduFire friend on Skype to describe the class signup to class attendance ratio. The formula includes a variable for the rate at which signups actually occur, and a variable for how many class sessions remain.

26) You’ve worn your eduFire t-shirt out in public for advertising purposes.

27) You plan on celebrating your 1 year birthday with eduFire.

Oh my. You need to go to a rehabilitation center! :P

PS an addition to 27)….
You will have two birthdays in eduFire, don’t forget it!!!

Lauren A. Lauren A. * 28 post(s)

Mail-reply-senderSend Message

Actually, three birthdays (see # 6 and #22 above). Which brings me to the point: why are we calling it a “birthday” and not an “anniversary?” This insinuates that we were not truly alive until we came to eduFire.

Same here. I come on EduFire everyday like 5 or 6 times (usually more than that). My Skype account is ONLY of people that I have met on EduFire, nobody else! So, yes, I am addicted in a very GOOD WAY!!

Lauren A. Lauren A. * 12 post(s)

Its an addiction for the search of knowledge! How can that be bad? So, no rehab just quite yet; maybe if I stop eating and sleeping altogether someone will have to force me to go.
