Hi everyone! We’re looking to redesign our feedback mechanism, and I would love to hear your ideas and opinions on the matter. Right now when someone completes a class they have the option to leave a 1-10 score and write something in a textbox which is displayed on the class page (or teacher profile if it’s a one-on-one). Here are some things that we have thought about. Nothing is concrete yet, but here’s a list of various options – I’d love to hear your opinions as well as ideas for things we haven’t looked at yet! - Star ratings instead of a 1-10 scale - Feedback appearing on the profile - Ability to leave feedback privately to the teacher - Ability to leave feedback that only eduFire sees - Anonymous feedback - Multiple feedback boxes for multiple things. - Class feedback versus tutoring session feedback We have a longer list, but I’m going to stop there, because I want your ideas as well! How can we make the feedback system really great while still keeping it pretty simple? Best ideas will get hooked up with some sweet schwag!!! |

Jon, this is a great idea! What I have always liked is those star ratings from like 1-5. Multiple feedback boxes could be like this and a star rating next to each: 1st Box: Attitude You could also put an option that there is a button besides each review of a class that says “Show on Profile”. That way, tutors could pick which reviews of classes that they want displayed on their profile. Just my ideas….. |

I actually prefer the 1-10 scale and like the way the tutor score is calculated and displayed. . . the change I would like to see is where the feedback ends up— I would prefer to see all of it (for private sessions and classes alike) on the tutor profile. Feedback and tutor scores could also be shown on class pages as well, but it is important that everything can be found in one place so that students can get a good idea of who their tutors are. |

I like the idea of star ratings instead of a 1-10 scale, it’s simpler and cuter =) I believe class feedback and tutoring session feedback should be together, in the end, the teacher is the same. Ah and maybe we could leave feedback about class students too and not only about 1:1 students? =) |

Great feedback so far guys. Please keep it coming! |

I would like to have better formatting options for text, if at all possible. I am happy to hear the idea of a star rating being considered. I think it will help someone more quickly form an opinion of the tutor. One thing I was wondering is will there show an average based on all the scores recieved? |
Perhaps include rating for ‘how well did the class/session meet your expectations?’ |

One thing we were also thinking about is “stars + number of ratings” So it would look something like (might not be able to see the stars, but just pretend if you don’t): ☆☆☆☆☆(124) ….where (124) is the number of ratings a teacher has gotten. That means a teacher with 4.8 stars and 2000 ratings will be looked at as better than someone with 5 stars and 1 rating. I like this one the best personally, kind of a best of both worlds compromise I think, and I see a lot of sites doing this so it’s pretty standard. |

Yeah same here, Koichi. That’s a good idea! :) |
@Koichi I think that would be the best way of displaying the rating also. Perfecto! |

I think feedback should be voluntary and not mandatory. I’ve had ‘you need to leave feedback’ on my profile and I didn’t want to leave feedback, yet I couldn’t get rid of the message unless I left feedback. |

Hi! I bit new around but checking out some of the features of the site I like some of the ideas proposed like making the feedback anonymous as it is completely normal for people not to be totally honest if people know who’s talking. The rating system that Koichi proposes sounds pretty good. Makes sense to put all the feedback on one place. It would be nice for the teacher to have the opportunity to reply to the feedback to get, for example, more information on what the student proposes to make better whatever is possible in his/her lessons. And well, of course the feedback should be controlled in case it gets out of control in a negative way. Cheers, |

I starting to see the 5 stars around now….. Here is what I like: |

That looks great Claire! :) |

Can I ask if the feedback about students is going to be the same? I think displaying student feedback could be very constructive, but it does not seems to be shown anywhere at the moment. |

I don’t know if we’ve put as much thought into student feedback at the moment – just thinking about it in terms of scaling, if in the future someone has 500 or even 1000 students in a single class, I don’t know if it’s fair to require them to rate all those students – I think student “ratings” is something we’d have to do on a more automatic basis. |
@ Austin Thanks:) |
No problem, Claire. I also agree that we shouldn’t rate students because of the time and everything. |

I love the 5 Star rating concept! It gives students a great way of seeing tutor reliability as they scroll through the classes page, which I think is an excellent way to put the spot light on tutors who continuously work at being as professional as possible. If their becomes a need for a Tutor Rating 2.x upgrade I would love to see some formatting options such as paragraph breaks and font sizing and color if possible added to the comments section. Some of us are getting old like me (I heard a song I danced to during my senior prom played on the ‘oldies’ station last night :( – so depressing!). Anyway, for us with not so perfect eyesight it would be a great addition to the comments section if there were limited text formatting abilities. But even without text formatting capabilities – this is an example of what may seem like a minor change in some ways, but has many great benefits to both tutors and students. It is the type of change I love to see here at eduFire! |

Me too, Ron. I love it! :) |

Can’t promise anything, but I hear there are going to be additional star-related things coming out over the next few days to get closer to completing the change-over. I agree though. Even with my “young’un” eyes they are a bit small. |

That is very good to know, Koichi. Stars are awesome! :) |

peace, all. so….i see stars….apparently it’s been a long time since i went to the class page….relatively speaking. and now that i have, i see yellow/orange-ish stars and also red stars. and the questions that come to mind are… what do the colors mean? and, what does it mean when a class has 5 red stars w/o any reviews? does it simply mean that all of the people who rated the class only gave a number rating w/o a comment? @Claire my instant reaction to the rating system u posted is, “i LOVE it!” even if that opinion changes slightly w/ new ideas and thoughts that come out, at least i let u know my initial reaction :-} |

@ Jamila Hahaha thanks. This is my ideal star system. :) Hope it will be implemented into the profile page soon. Hint hint Koichi :P |
