I found this website the other day (http://hundredpushups.com). At one point in my life, I was the Thurston County Pushup Champion amongst all 4th and 5th graders in my area. I did 89 pushups (or was it 91?), and crushed the competition. Now, I’m old and weak, and cannot do so many. I want to get back up to my glory days when I was around 10 years old and looked like a little Bruce Lee (very little). Basically, the whole point of the website is to get you from 0 pushups to 100 pushups in around 6 weeks. It tells you how many pushups you should do, when you should do them, and gradually gets you up there. There is a book and an iPhone app as well, but everything you need is right on the site. I started doing this program last night, and thought it would be cool to see if any of you wanted to get involved as well! I’m also (forcing?) my girlfriend to do it with me (bwahaha), so it’s kind of fun to struggle with our weak little arms together. Here’s what I thought we can do: 1. Start the program (and announce that you’re starting it right here!) Why YOU should join in: 1. Pushups are good for you! Time to start! I’m going to post another post for my first day – who’s going to join me? |

Week 1, Day 1 (september 7, 2009) Started on Day 3 since that’s what the results of the initial test told me to do. Set 1: 11 How I feel today: SORE, mostly in my abs, a little bit in my arms, though I think some of it can be attributed to sand dune hiking a couple days prior. Okay, now someone has to join me, otherwise I’ll feel sad and alone :( |

Can some guys try to join Koichi? I don’t want to do push ups. Hahaha |
You should do it, Claire! Think of how buff you’ll be in 6 weeks! |
I am fine with jogging, but push ups…. Can you start a program on jogging? Hahaha, I will definitely join. |

Don’t feel sad and alone! I’ll join you tomorrow. I love this type of thing. It reminds me of the “thirty day challenge” where you pick a goal and stick with it for thirty days. I’m on day two of waking up at 5:00AM every day, so I think I’ll do this in the extra awake time I have in the day now. I’m pretty out of shape too, and I always worry a lot about exercising in the wrong form and causing permanent damage or something :P. Still, I’ll give it a try tomorrow :D. |

@Claire- Hahahaha ;D That’s funny. I’ve experienced “juken benkyou(受験勉強)” both high school and college entrance exam-studying in Japan, and “push-ups” was what I did at 4am before I hit the books. It’s all coming back now…… :) yeah… Thanks for starting this out Koichi, I should report back soon. |

@Claire – But you need Bruce Lee arms! @Joe – Nice! I was doing waking up early for a little while, but it was 6am (I can’t believe you’re doing 5am, WOW) and lasted about 3 weeks. I failed to keep up, but on average now I’m waking up about 1 hour earlier than I was before, so it’s been great in that sense! I gotta get back on that, you may have inspired me! Another thing I’m thinking of starting is the Siesta schedule – Anyways, really looking forward to having you on board the push-up pain train! @Wren – You must be buff! Football, Pushups, waking up at 4am to study…. I think Wren will be the person to beat! :) @EveryoneElse – this is getting fun! Join in soon! |

I’m down! I already lost 20 pounds this summer, might as well get legitimately healthy :) |
Nice Sean! And congrats! 20 pounds is a lot! Can we look forward to a post from you tonight about your first set? :) |
Sure, I’ll try this! The most push-ups that I ever made was 43 when I was in 8th grade. Quite a while ago. :P |

I’ll join you. I did 8 for the initial test, and then started Day 1 immediately, with: Doesn’t look like much, but I am already sore. |
Austin and Erik, great to have you aboard! Nice job, Erik! It’s amazing to think that you’ll be doing a hundred pushups soon! |

Awesome, I need to start this! |

I just did the initial test: 35 and I was exhausted. It’s kind of embarrassing. I used to do competitive weight lifting and tae kwon do and could easily hit 100. Koichi, thanks for this site. I’ll start tomorrow. |
I’m also going to do the 200 squats and 200 situps—once I’m not tired from my pushups earlier! |
Jade and Brandon, welcome! Looking forward to progressing along with both of you! |
I’m intrigued by this. I might just give it a go – I’ve been meaning to go to the gym ^^; |

Question for you Koichi – how did the initial test tell you do start on day 3? I don’t see that option…? |
I have tried to maintain a consistent routine of doing pushups in the past, but have only ever been able to keep it up for about a week at the most. I’ve been planning on trying to get some kind of exercise thing going and this may be a good start. Edubody else is putting in the fitness time so why not heh heh…. |
@Michael – On the Week One section I believe it tells you something about starting on day 3 if you do X number in the initial test. Anyways, welcome to the group! @Nathan – Welcome to the group you too! |
@Koichi – You sure you don’t mean week 3? |
I thought I left this kind of competition in HS. |
@Koichi, I think you’re supposed to start on week 3. I don’t see anything pointing to day 3 right away. Yesterday I managed about 8 pushups (barely!), so I start on Day 1 [6-10] push ups. Doing 5 [correct form] pushups at the end was actually really difficult. My arms feel like noodles and I’m actually experiencing some upper back pain (top right shoulder area). I’ll have to keep an eye on that… |
After my initial test I was borderline starting from week 3, but I think it’ll be more fun to do the 6 weeks. Day 1 starts Friday for me! |
