It’s a busy time of year, it’s possible that the tutors do not have enough time to devote to classes, or do not have the time to spare on classes that will not help financially (since this is also an expensive time of year, let alone the economic issues, lol).
It’s also possible that there is a lack of participation. In my situation, I have almost no time because of schoolwork and college applications, so I have not been an active member of the community in general )=

Maybe after the holidays, schedules will begin to clear up a bit more, but for now, all there is to do is support the tutors who are offering courses in any subject, free or paid.

(I think this might better fit under Languages, no? ^^;)

Hey Keichii,

Teachers do free class for marketing purposes so the level is usually beginner if that. You’re unlikely to ever learn any language properly without some form of investment. There is a Japanese class here with a great teacher, it isn’t free, but just as an illustration that we do have classes.

Hope you find what you’re looking for soon. If you need any help at all please just ask.

Hi Keichii, been a while. I was already thinking of doing more free classes but, not in Japanese yet – I need to dig into material that’s more in line with what you’re trying to learn (early stuff) and not the ridiculously advanced stuff I’ve been polishing over the last several years, so that I can teach what people can handle. I’m not opposed to teaching Japanese, I just haven’t done it yet – that and there’s some people already doing it. But I will try to whip something up soon.

I’ve seen some talk about not having too many free classes in this or that area so it was already on my mind. Thanks for bringing it up. Though, Marco is correct that the good stuff here is for pay, even if it’s just SuperPass.

@Keichii – there ARE free classes, maybe not as much as the past, but they do exist. BUT, do students who sign up, actually show up???

Think about “free classes” from the teacher’s perspective: it’s definitely NOT free, but actually COSTS a teacher to create free classes. Imagine you spend hours of your own time creating a class, and students “promise” you they’ll show up (yes, if you sign up for a class, that means you are going to actually show up since you can skip or drop the class if you know you can’t attend, right?) and they don’t. Feel like doing that again and again? Don’t think so, unless there is some other motivation then getting paid is involved, which I know many teachers here on eduFire have.

Please think about FREE classes from the teacher’s perspective, too, and act upon it as a student. Hopefully that will encourage more free classes to pop up consistently and more often!

Hey hey I’m just as busy as gabby!! xO but I try to show up for the ONE free class I do have cough Wren…O: But yea I think this is a busy time of the year cause of the economy and stuff. I just wish it would be a little more like my summer brake when I had 3 or 4 free classes at once! I’am broke…x-x don’t even bother asking a high school senior who’s ABOUT to be a college freshmen to take a paying class. u~u ( Unless I’m teaching! xD) Thanks all~

Hi Keichii,

I don’t believe anyone is scolding you. People are just sharing their opinions. I teach some free classes discussing different types of music. Click here to view my free classes.

I appreciate Wren’s understanding that free classes are not free in terms of the time they require for creation. For example, each music class takes me about 6 hours to create from idea to completion.

@Keichii – Hahahahaha :D Sounds like scolding? Maybe it “sounds” that way for a reason (but, you know me better ;) I’m not scolding, as Alan said, just voicing, not just mine, but also many teacher’s voices…..those nice teachers that may not speak up as I do which ALSO WORK in those busy, busy schools many students of eduFire attend during the day (or night), and teach a class at night ON TOP of that. For some, teaching on eduFire is the ONLY way to earn an income. Think about it….

I do want to make a point, again, from the teacher’s perspective, that it is NOT OK to miss a class without proper notification unless in an emergency. Real world manners apply online, in my opinion. It’s just a common courtesy thing I see is lacking, especially with FREE (to student) classes here on eduFire in general and wanted to take the opportunity to voice my view. No personal attacks intended.

I’m also on a personal netiquette campaign/crusade of sorts, via the forums and through my classes, because I know what negative impact and morale damage “no shows” do to a serious and good-willed teacher. I’ve seen many teachers come and go already, for this reason.

Some teachers are more patient and/or tougher than others, and stick around, like Enrique and Alan. I’ve participated/taken their free class/opportunities, and I promote them on and offline. That’s another way I try to give back for their “investment” because I want them to stay on eduFire. EduFire as a community is better with teachers like them and students who support them. That’s the way. That’s the only way this good thing will go on.

I would also like to highlight that the “economy and stuff” is influencing teachers the same way or more, and it is harder for someone who is giving away otherwise valuable things/services/classes (worth money) for free, but we still do it. Many teachers do it here and elsewhere. Sometimes, our goodwill, planning, and investments will bear fruit, but not always. I feel that there’s more sense of loss and disappointment for a teacher with much investment in “free” class preparation(time, energy, emotion, and many times real money!) compared to a student “missing” the opportunity to actually take that “free” class.

So again, no personal attacks intended, but it was an opportunity to voice my views, so THANK you Keichii for creating that opportunity, and Thank You who just read this post! Now go SPREAD THE WORD :D

I see.Whoa! I never attacked a teacher! D: Well I may act a bit crazy in Lauren-sensei’s japanese music class but I text her and she is cool about it cause her class is fun! I saved every single note of her lesson before my computer crashed. DX It seems edufire is too much for me right now. I think I’ll take a two year brake.Since I don’t have much time anyway. o-o I’ll only take Lauren-sensei’s class.Well bye everyone. (Darn I wish there were cute icon’s I could use xP)
