Just wanted to know if anyone could recommend some good contemporary tunes to listen to in Italian. Just to let you know the kind of stuff I like – Laura Pausini, Andrea Bocelli, Nek, etc. I’m also open to any suggestions for french, spanish or russian.

Spanish: Mana, Manu Chau, Alejandro Sanz, Juanes, and many more. Manu Chau (old stuff under Mano Negra) sings in French, Spanish, Portuguese, and others. Really great stuff. Mana is probably my favorite and it reminds me of U2.

I haven’t listened to Coti, but I guess I should! Carlos Santana’s old stuff is great, but I haven’t really gotten into his newer music. I’ve heard of Enanitos Verdes and I’m sure I’ve heard their music, but I’ll have to look it up again to see which songs they sing. Likewise for Julieta Venegas.

I saw Juanes in concert in SF and he was awesome. That was back in 2003, so I think that was when he was starting to become really popular. Could be wrong.

I also like random Mexican artists, like Alejandro Fernandez, Ana Gabriel, Juan Gabriel, and others. As far as rock en espanyol we also listen to Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Divididos, Jarabe de Palo, Caifanes, and La Ley. I like Carlos Vives and some Elvis Crespo, but I think he is a jerk from the interviews I’ve seen. I really do need some new music!

Thanks for the input… I’m familiar with Manu Chao (Clandestino, King of the Bongo, etc) and though his music is a bit odd I learned to like it. Mana is classic “Rock en Español” so I’ve definitely listened to their stuff. Alejandro Sanz has a very unique style that I also like specially when in collaboration with artist like Shakira and Miguel Bosé. Compared to these others Juanes is somewhat of the “new kid on the block” as he only reached fame after “A Dios le Pido” which I liked. I didn’t like “La Camisa Negra” though. What do you think of Enanitos Verdes and Carlos Santana, Julieta Venegas or Coti?
