I am looking for a Norwegian tutor to help me learn the language from the ground up. I have no background at all, and so am looking for someone to meet with me regularly (probably once a week), help me to locate study materials, etc.

Unfortunately, none of the tutors that teach the language here have responded to my messages. I am wondering if there is anyone else who might be willing?

Hi Nathaniel. I am a Norwegian national teaching Norsk to English speakers. I have my own materials for my students and you will have a copy of every lesson every session. Basically what I use is the conversational method which means it’s more on talking to help you speak first which is my main goal, then we touch the subject for grammar and all that when you are able to speak at least a little basic phrases. I give out quizzes (oral and written) to make sure that you do not only know how to speak Norsk but also to be able to write and read as well. I will also give out homeworks so you can do a little study of your own on your own pace and time. I will also provide audio recordings which will help you in pronouncing Norsk words faster and better.

My father told me a story about some Norwegians who were selling equipment used at a fish processing plant he worked on in those days. (Not a glamor position.)

He asked this one individual man if Norwegian was a very difficult language to learn.

In full accent, the man replied, “It is not a difficult language at all. In my country, even little children speek it!”

I always found it very amusing….
