Hello! I’d like to know how is the attendance in the 1:m sessions. Mine has fallen dramatically, mainly because of the time of the year. |
I’ve been getting about 50% attendance from those who register. |
I had a class last night, 16 registered and about 12 attended. I have been attending a lot of sessions too and I think Sean is about right. Only time I noticed it was really bad was on Thanksgiving weekend as expected. There’s also that fine line between creating a class too far in advance that people register then may forget, and too near to give it enough time to get a good size group. Sending a group message a few hours before it’s due to start also helps too. |

Hi Enrique, I don’t think people forget to attend the class because we get emails reminding us we have a class starting within a couple of hours in advance( sometimes even one day ahead of time), sending them a group message also isn’t a guaranty that every single one will show up ( I write them for my peace of mind). What I noticed is that most participants are really willing to join the class so bad that they even overlook the time zone issue, this is a big reason for sure. But I do agree with you 100% regarding the time of the year, December is a busy month for us here. |

True Angela…. though for those that don’t live ‘at’ their computers (like me :) ) if the class was booked a week or so in advance…. and they may only check their email once a week or so, they may not see the reminder |

Exactly, everyone’s different. |
I get about 50%. Whomever shows, I am happy to teach. It will be interesting to see when 1:M gets out of beta, how many will pay. |
Hi My attendance is running about 50% as well. |
I am a newbie here…. What is a 1:m session? |
@ Maria Gloria. 1:m = 1 to many. One teacher and many students. |
@Alan! Right. I’m waiting for these classes to finally go live. |
Thank you! |
@Maria Gloria! 1:m are the free classes that we’re testing now! You can still join in some in case you haven’t done so yet! |
Hi! Today, I got no students even though 5 students signed up….. But that was because the “join now” links were suddenly not displayed by the system…. Anyone ever had a problem like that? Usually, about a half of the signed-up students attend my classes. I wish the attendance was better, but I think this is the average expectancy. |
Hi, my attendance is about 50-70%. |
Just want to let you guys now that right now is the finals time for many universities in United States, including me. I’m so freaking busy with papers and such, plus many students having to move back to family’s place. |
sometimes none would show up i think it is because of the finals in the american universities and also (jesus is the reason for the season) holidays and family time, not edufire time |
Yeah. It’s Finals time. So I guess this would not be the best time to have a class. I was planning on having an “Introduction to Tagalog and Filipino Culture” class but seeing that even the popular classes are having a hard time getting students at the moment, I guess I’ll have to postpone. And I would have to disagree with you Abdul, Jesus is not the reason for the “[cheery holiday] season” as it’s Advent at the moment. |
Maria! :) Welcome! Click on the “Classes” link at the top of the page for a list of available classes. At the moment they are all FREE! :) There is no obligation and every class is a lot of fun. If you need anything let me know. :) |
hi katherine, i heard the phrase jesus is the reason for season everywhere in america when i was living there, but i do agree with you it is cheery holiday |
I think many people are also just worried in general about the economy, and this puts their mind elsewhere than learning something new. I can understand this even though I disagree with it. When you are unemployed, or when work is slow, is the time to try to learn something new that can help you be more competitive and make more money in the future. Besides, constantly worrying about the economy is bad for one’s health. What better way to take that off your mind than to use your brain to learn something new, to open up new neural pathways? |

My attendance is down as well. Maybe December is just a slow season. I hope it picks up! |
I agree that December is a very busy time for people, with holidays, shopping, finals, and such. Don’t forget to send a message to all your students, though! There is a nifty feature that lets you just “send to all students” (or something like that), and you can send messages to all of them at once, which is great. Doing that 24 hours ahead of time really increases attendance, I think. |
My attendance is down as well. I have been recently sending more e-mails to all my students hopefully that will help. |

Class attendance inevitably falls in December. With the New Year 2009 around the corner. Its also time to start thinking on New Year’s Resolutions My experience has taught me, that learning a new language is many times a new year’s resolution. I would like edufire to Implement the 1:m live once and for all, so we can capitalize on this reality. |
