I just finished a Hindi lesson with a student and could not use the .ppt presentation I made especially for her to teach in devanagari script. Since Please suggest ways around this or if something is in works to support different fonts and scripts. I am sure other tutors must have faced the same problem with their native scripts as well. Looking forward to suggestions to help me out. |

Hello Anshu, Would a service like Slideshare work for you? http://www.slideshare.net/ Best |
|
|
yes, that problem exists, actually I have noticed it the first time I have uploaded a slideshow during my session with Marco C. For my 1:M sessions I have used some graphic files (jpg) in my presentation. I could do that only because it was a basic course, but for a more complex text it’s not probably easy…. @ Rashunda, if you upload a slideshow on the website you mentioned, there is no problem with the Unicode Hindi font, but how can you use it on edufire sessions? You won’t be able to highlight the text as in a virtual classroom…. |

@Marged – > Ah. I misunderstood Anshu. I thought she was looking for a roundabout way to share her slide with students if uploading to edufire didn’t work. |

@Rashunda, thanks for the tip. Definitely a better way than sharing my computer screen with the student since the font size is almost illegible with that. But like Marged said, it will be soooooooooooo great to have these .ppt presentations work with edufire. |

Hey all. Try doing the following and see if this helps at all: * In the Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, select File > Save As. * In the Save As dialog, select Tools > Save Options. * Check the “Embed TrueType fonts”. * Select either “Embed characters in use only” or “Embed all characters”. If “Embed all characters” is chosen, the file size will be larger. * Click OK and click Save. |

I will be testing this in my 9.00am class tomorrow with Flavia. Will let you know Jon. I hope this works. have my fingers crossed. |

Jon- tried it this morning. The file did not load at all. The error message said “unable to convert file” . I can send you the file and you can see how the dependent vowels called ‘maatraas’ get all mixed up when the file does load. |

Hi Anshu, I have the same problem with the powerpoint in Arabic. The letters don’t appear connected by they become separated. I use another method although it takes some time. First, you make what you want in the ppt or even word doc. Then, you convert it into pdf file. Secondly, you go to your pdf file, click on “tools”, then “select and zoom”, afterwards you click on “snapshot tool” and snapshot the page or the part of the page that you want to add on each slide page and paste it in your powerpoint. I know it is a bit tiring but that’s still better than nothing! About the conversion, there is a good website that can do this job for free www.zamzar.com. I also hope that Jon can find something easier for us! Happy new year to you Anshu and everyone! @ Jon, hey man, I really appreciate your effort in Edufire. You are doing a great job :) |

Thx. for the tip Hamdy I will try it. But the advantage with powerpoint presentation is that I can have some built in animation with words which I will lose with a .pdf document. |
