Hi folks,

How do you make a DVD that is playing on my computer heard from the students in the class?

I want to play a 8 minute segment of a DVD. I played it on Windows Media Player on my Pc. I shared the screen and everyone could see it. But no one could hear the sound from the player.

thanks

Hi Pierre-Alex,

Yes streaming a video via screen sharing wont give you good results. If you can convert the segment of video that you want to play into either a .flv or .swf file, then you can upload it into the Share pod and that will work just fine.

Ok great, I just created a .swf file, do I upload it during the class or am I missing a step here?

That is right, just upload it during the class :)

When I open the SWF on my computer, it opens into a Explorer browsing window.
If it does that in my session, do you think that the students will hear the sound of the playback. I have doubts about that.

Hi there! It is very unlikely that they will hear, you should upload it to a Sharepod like a PPT file.

@Alaia I’ve seen it work and not work. My advice would be to keep PPT files as simple as possible. Then you’re guaranteed success.

@Pierre-Alex – Debbie meant to upload the .swf file to the Share pod just as you would any file, such as .ppt(x) (powerpoint), .jpg etc.

Thank you Marco.

Are you sure that I can upload SWF files?

I am trying to upload a 111,063 kb file, is it too big?

Nothing seems to happen, it is still loading after 10 minutes.

I tried to did the same many many times with much smaller files also (such as short videoclips) but it never worked. I have been waiting for ages, even 30 minutes and more, but even once downloaded it did not work.

It would be very useful for our students if it worked:-) Let us know!

Cheers,
Katia

Katia, have you tried to upload a video, while in class?
and

I wonder if Power Point does allow integration of videos?

Well folks, great news! I was able to upload a .SWF and a big one, and the video is playing great!

I know that integration of sound clips using Sound Recorder did not function through Connect Pro when I tried it briefly.

The only issue is that there is no video player. I would like to start and stop the video playback whenever I want. The only way to stop it is to get out of the presentation mode, it seems.

There is no ‘play’, ‘stop’ button etc.? I thought there was. :-/

I couldn’t find them. There is a player, obviously, but where are the commands?

They should have been right there. Maybe it only works with .flv :(

Pierre Vachon Pierre Vachon ** 93 post(s)

Oh, so where are they when using a .flv file?

Marco C Marco C Admin *** 1,652 post(s)

I have never used an .flv so assumed they were, assumed wrongly it seems :-/

Does it play ok?

Pierre Vachon Pierre Vachon ** 93 post(s)

Yes it plays fine. Is there a tech person who could resolve the Video playback issue ?
