Hey, I think the Bermuda Triangle is in eduFire because I think it swallowed up Adam G, to whom I was supposed to be giving a lesson right now. My profile page says that he’s waiting for me, however when I get in there, nada. Also, on his profile page he is offline (no green border) but I don’t know if that is tracked while a user is in session.

Hmmmmmm

My case was worst, my student was online and he told me he was in the session room, and I was there two but we couldn’t see or here each other, as a matter of fact, to each of us, the other appeared as disconnected.
Grrrrr….

Jon, if it helps I think it might be browser/flash related.

This has also happened to me a few times. Especially, though not exclusively, if I used Skype immediately beforehand. I know it’s going to happen when I join the room but instead of seeing the little progress bar it dumps me straight in the room. Only me there yet on My eduFire it tells me they’re waiting for me.

Restarting the PC always resolves this for me. Hope it helps.

We hadn’t been on Skype and I had just restarted my PC due to connecting a VoIP phone for my new job starting monday. I had the progress bar, but when I got to the session room I was all alone, and Bernard K, My student sent me a message saying same thing had happened to him.
Weird thing to happen. I use Thunderbird and haven’t had problems before. Hmmmm…I’m thinking…

Hi Sean & Susan,

I’d like to get a few more details about each of your sessions, if I could:

Sean: Did you and Adam schedule your session ahead of time, or was it an instant session? It looks like you two may have just crossed paths, the join link indicates if the other party has joined, but it’s not capable of updating in real time when users enter and leave a room more than once.

Also, online status is not tracked while you’re in a session room; we wanted to minimize distractions for the tutor while giving a session, imagine if you were teaching Adam and you were constantly being bombarded with session requests from other users at the same time.

Susan: I see two session records for you in our system with Bernard, a free introduction and a paid session. If he had requested both an introduction and an instant session from you, that would spawn two sessions, it could simply be that he was in one session room, and you were in the other.

Regards,
Jared

Jared: Bernard had booked the paid session, during which we weren’t able to meet, we had this “Bermuda Triangle” issue. Then, after messaging and finding out what had happened he requested an introduction, I entered the room but he said he wasn’t able to join it. Then we had a chat session during which we talked about what had happenned.

It is happenning right now again. I even entered the session room from another window and I could see myself as tutor and student, my student says he’s there and has the “waiting for the other party to connect” message, and I’m there too and have the same message!!!

For two or three weeks already, I’ve been having the following problems:
1) when Svelana or Chris enter the session room, eduFire tells me that they’re waiting for me, but it says “waiting for the other party to connect” as soon as I enter the room;
2) I enter the session room and I get connected to…. myself!!!!! this lasts until I delete all cookies and restart my browser;
3) Svetlana’s camera and microphone are working perfectly everywhere except for eduFire… I can never hear her, and we wind up on Skype every single time…

What’s going on, guys?

Hey Yuriy. This is definitely at the top of our list in terms of stuff we’re looking into these days. It’s strange because it’s not happening very much but for those who it’s happening to it seems to be consistent. So that leads me to believe it could be configuration-dependent. We’ll continue to investigate and hope we can figure out an answer in short order.

Hey Yuriy,

Regarding your 3rd point, I discovered yesterday with a friend that messenger holds onto the webcam resources sometimes even after you shut it down. As it starts with Windows by default it’s worth going into its options and stopping it start up when Windows starts, then restarting the PC.

Hope that helps somehow.

Hey Everyone,

Scott from eduFire Development here. Clearly this is a big issue here and we want to nail it (my apologies for not responding sooner but I just got back from a vacation with my family). One question we have here is what Operating System / version of Windows are you all using. Is this happening on XP or Vista for example. Telling us this gives us the best first chance at repeating — and then addressing.

Thanks in advance.

I had a similar issue today (July 15) with Debbie H as my student. We lost connection twice during the hour. The first time we reconnected, but the video was not working. Sound was fine. We continued that way, then got disconnected again. When reconnected (I re-entered the room to reconnect) we had video again. It was a great session otherwise!!

Hey Tracy. What platform (operating system/browser) are you running on?

Also, anyone else who has seen this behavior please report in your OS/browser…it’ll be really helpful to us in terms of diagnosing any issues. Thx!

And last night I was victim of this again. I had a few test sessions with Marco, and it all worked beautifully…so I know it’s not me, but I’ve already had problems with three different students. I believe it might be their computers’ memory or connection speed. Last night, when I finally found my student after going in and out of the session room ten times, his video was almost frozen and we had four minutes delay in audio. So I’m starting to think that might be the issue, people with not so fast computers…What do you, experts and knowledgable people, think about this???

Hi Scott! Sorry for a late answer, but I didn’t get a notification about updates in the topic :(

Me and Svetlana, we’re using XP. Chris, as far as I remember, has a Mac, but I rarely had problems with him. And so far, I’ve had all my sessions with Svetlana Coderre on Skype… (((

Hey guys…I’m having THAT problem again right this moment, my student is in the session room, so am I but we cannot see each other, he’s very upset. Bernard K is very eager to learn and having these problems is very frustrating. We’re both on XP and had a lesson 2 days ago and there weren’t any problems!!!
