Problems with cyrillic letters in the chat window

I’ve had two sessions with a student who can’t see cyrillic letters in the chat window in the classroom. After the first session I thought it was because she didn’t have cyrillic fonts installed on her computer, so I asked her to install them. She told me she installed them and that she could type in Russian in Microsoft Word. But when I type in cyrillics in the chat window, she can see letters as question marks. Does anyone have any idea why? Thanks a lot.

The resolution does lie at the user end rather than ConnectPro as I know, for example, that the Cyrillic works and is seen. The problem is trying to find out what it is! :)

Now, if you install a different ‘keyboard’ enabling you to type in that language, is that the same, as far as the user’s system is concerned, as having the font installed?

We’ll need to delve deeper into this. I wonder if people that can’t see it can see it using another application like a messenger program?

I was thinking of trying it in Edufire chat with her and also on Skype. As you say, it could be interesting to see if it’s only on ConnectPro or everywhere.

Yours is a different issue Patrick. :) Your cyrillic letters to not appear at all and are question marks both to you and the student is this right? Two issues. We will look at this when we meet on Sunday afternoon. Thanks for reminding me! :)

I’ve done some digging and I “think” I may have discovered something. It could be a browser setting rather than a “font” issue.

Elena, definitely let me know how the letters appear in a Skype chat window with your student. :)
