I’ve been taking courses on Edufire for about a week or so, but I never bothered to introduce myself.
So here I am. :D
I’m Adrian (some call me Addie), and I’m studying both Japanese and Mandarin Chinese. I’m an English major in a university in Texas, and I plan to teach English in Japan. That’s the very same reason that I’m studying Japanese much more than Mandarin. I’ll definitely need it someday, and hopefully, some day soon. As for Mandarin, well, it’s just for fun. I recently found out I was part Chinese, so I’ve taken in interest in the Chinese language(s)/dialects as a result.

It’s nice to meet you all. :]

Welcome to eduFire! Yeah, I think Mandarin will become one of the most important languages to know, here, pretty soon (if it isn’t already). Best of luck getting over to Japan to teach English – any ideas on what grade levels you want to teach?

Hi Adrian,

Welcome to eduFire! How hard/easy is it to get into teaching English in Japan….what is required? Good luck to you

Thanks for the welcome, everyone! :D
What grade levels I want to teach? Well. I really wanna teach maybe around middle-school level, although I wouldn’t complain ‘bout teaching high school kids. I understand that I may wind up starting off with elementary school kiddos, though. Doesn’t matter to me, as long as I START somewhere, y’know? :]

The requirements to teach English in Japan?
For every opening or job posting I’ve seen, the requirements seem to be rather similar; “must have a college degree in English,” “must have the fluency of a native speaker” along with the occasional “must currently reside in Japan,” though that last one isn’t required everywhere.
I think that’s a great thing; after I graduate, I’ll secure a job over there first, then I’ll make my way to Japan. No use heading over there without a plan, right? :D
