Hi all,
This site looks great!!! I am a language addict like so many others here. A bit about me:

I am from Boston, Massachusetts, USA. I took French in school for many years when I was a kid. I have gone to Quebec for vacation so many times, and I have always loved the chance to practice French there.

When I was a teenager, my high school sweetheart was from Minas Gerais, Brazil. I learned Portuguese, and he learned English.

My husband is from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I now speak Spanish more easily (fluenty) than Portuguese.

I started studying Hebrew with a local tutor here about 9 months ago, and I am enjoying that a lot.

I have studied a little bit of several other languages in the past, too: German, Japanese, Haitian Creole, Somali, Cape Verdean Creole, Greek, Italian, Russian, Farsi, Arabic. For some languages, this means I started up on my own and then didn’t even stick with it.

I have experience teaching ESL, Spanish, and students with special needs.

Anyway, that is all for now. Thank you for this great community!!! :-)

I

Adina!

Great intro and looks like you’re really into languages like most of us!

I really recommend you attend a student orientation class as that’ll help you get started but in the meantime if you ever need anything just let us know!

Best

Wow, Ardina…. that’s a lot of language learning! That’s exciting that you’re going to learn on eduFire and then begin at some point to be a teacher online yourself. What a great idea :)

Hi, thanks everyone for the warm welcome!!! Yes Ehrin I have been using the flashcards some. I love how smoothly the app runs, even on my “moody” PC. I also love how you earn points every time you use them. It really works for as a motivator to keep coming back for more practice, which I wouldn’t have guessed! What a fabulous place this is….I think I will need to offer some classes soon, but for now I will keep exploring this place :)

Welcome Adina…. here you’ll find all the languages you’re interested in…. where in Québec were you vacationing? Although I now live in Ottawa (Ontario), I’m originally from Montréal…. :)

hi Lyne, thanks… :) well, every time I go, it has only been for 3 or 4 days. Usually to Montréal, Sherbrooke, or Québec City. One time I even drove all the way to Estrie from Boston, I had a chicken dinner at St-Hubert, and then turned around and went home!!

Adina…. nice places to visit in Québec indeed and (maybe less in Montréal and Sherbrooke) to practice your French…. Incredible! You drove from Boston just to eat our “célèbre poulet St-Hubert BBQ !!! :P We have one here in Ottawa, yet it isn’t the same…. I guess chicken comes from Ontario! :(

Wow! Awesome Intro! If you are a language lover, you picked the right place! I see that you studied a little Haitian Creole!? Sak Pase! I speak Creole. I bet learning it wasn’t too hard, since it does have some similarities with French….kind of….My friends who spoke French had an easy time picking up Kreyol. Anyways, good luck!

Lyne….. yes, there is nothing like St-Hubert BBQ Sauce and the millefeuilles for dessert!!! And I love the chicken picture. He is still so cute after all these years. Haha….I heard there used to be a St-Hubert in Florida, too. I would like to visit that one if it’s still there, but it seems like it wouldn’t be the same either. Do you ever go to Ottawa’s voisin québecois, la ville de Hull?

Valerie….mwen byen, mesi….sake pase ou?? Eske ou vle ba klas kreyol? (hope i said that right) :)

Adina…. there used to be a St-Hubert BBQ in Ft.Lauderdale (I went there a few times) and they were importing their chicken from Québec…. but it was costly and the Americans weren’t that hot about it (only Canadian tourists were attracted there…. when they were missing home…. in the “cuisine” dept). Therefore it closed…. too bad….

I go to Gatineau (with the merging, it isn’t called Hull any longer) once in a while…. when I have outings with my students (Le Club français) and go to the movies, theater, etc…. because Québec is across the river, in Ottawa they don’t really bother to accomodate Francophones w stuff in French (which is a pity)…. there are also a couple of gastronomic French restos there that I visit often…. but, in the whole, Gatineau isn’t a nice place and it’s rather boring…. on the other hand I go back to Montréal regularly (only 90 minutes from here…. well…. for me! I’ve been told it was a good 2 hours…. Je suis québécoise de souche, so I drive fast!!!)…. ;)
