I didn’t plan to post anything in the forum, but since everyone is doing it, I thought I’d better introduce myself. I am really into languages, having taught English, Spanish and French at different levels. I can see from the forum that I am in for a rather rich experience.

The flash cards are the bomb! I tried them for Tagalog, which I don’t know at all – or should I say, didn’t know at all? Now I know that ‘katas’ is juice, that ‘itlog’ is egg and that ‘tsa’ is ‘tea’! Fantastic.

Hi Elsbeth,

welcome to edufire:-)

I have noticed your interesting profile because of this sentence:

“Ever wondered why you say ‘If I were you’ instead of ‘If I was you’? I wondered that for many years as well until I did French and Spanish and learnt about a wonderful little thing called the subjunctive. There are many other things that became clear to me in English when I did Spanish and French.”

This is very true for all latin languages. For example, Italian being the modern latin uses the “subjunctif/congiuntivo” much more than all other languages.

Generally speaking, learning latin (which is still a compulsive subject in Italian secondary school caled “liceo”) as well as any other modern latin language will give native English speakers a better grasp of their grammar.

All the best for your teaching here and I look forward to meeting you in class:-)

Katia
