Hello everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself in EduFire. My name is Marc and I live near Barcelona, Spain. I am new in EduFire although I have been teaching Spanish as a foreign language online for more than 2 years (offline about 3 years, ), in one-on-one classes and also group classes, but using another platform.I have recently found this platform and I think there’s much more activity here, so I’ll try to integrate into this big online community. |

Hola Debbie! I don’t remember exactly but I think I was looking for information about Web 2.0 and somehow I ended up in EduFire. I have been teaching in another educational platform, WiZiQ, but in EduFire the enviroment is much more active and the virtual classroom much better. Any recommendation to be succesful in EduFire? Marc. |

That’s wonderful, Marc. I actually really want to learn Spanish, but I’m working to make money in other areas too – but my whole inspiration for trying to teach English as a Second Language etc. is my lovely stepmother from Colombia who had such problems learning English in spite of being very well educated. (Some health issues didn’t do her any good either but, the state of ESL in Atlantic Canada did not impress me.) Spanish does seem to be such a lovely language, especially when she speaks it. :) Enjoy your stay…. and it’s interesting to hear about other platforms, because this is the one I chose first, and I haven’t tried others. Oh yeah – besides things like eyecatch images for the classes, Koichi said on a thread recently that people read the syllabus first to find out exactly what a class/ course can offer, so that might be a good tip; it’s the result of much user feedback apparently. |

Thank you everyone for your warm welcome to EduFire, and for your tips. I have just started offering courses in EduFire. I realized that there are lots of classes of Spanish but they don’t follow any order, they are just individual classes. That’s why I created 5 courses (Beginners, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate and Advanced) so students can follow a curriculum in Spanish. And they will learn appropiate content according to each level. What do you think? Marc. |

I think it’s an interesting approach. I’ve been thinking about how to approach both English and early Japanese teaching. (For Japanese, I wouldn’t be the right person for advanced classes, but for short of that, I’m at least as qualified as people already doing tutoring with my time as a J>E translator.) I think your approach is on the right track. In particular, it’s a way for “tweeners” who benefit so much from a tutor’s teaching that they become able to handle a more advanced level mid-way to move to the next level without any special hassle. I’m going to see what I can do about that. My current push is to get into speech coaching; I’m running a class today to do a little teaching but also to gather information about what particular individuals need and how I might be of specific help to them. Speech coaching isn’t confined to any one level of English; even Presidents hire these professionals (to take things to one extreme). But, I only recently realized I had the skill to do this so I’m still getting my feet wet. |

I think your plan is great! Good luck! |

Thanks Valerie! Any advice, suggestion, idea,…. will be welcomed. Marc. |

Good idea, Marc! But sometimes students, themselves, don’t know the actual level that they are in. That’s why tutors put up these “individual” classes and try to get to know their students from there, as well as assess the level that they are in. Good luck! |

Hi, Santino! My idea is to offer one-on-one Free Trial Classes so the students know me and how I teach, and I also can know their level. But this possibility is not possible in EduFire. I am trying to figure out how to do it. Any suggestion? Thanks, Marc. |
