Hello, I’m Heather. I’m from Washington, United States. I heard about eduFire.com from one of my friends who now resides in Germany. Somehow he was able to take free lessons, and I would like to learn more about that. Unfortunately, I am not able to talk to him about it because he’s busy.

I joined eduFire.com in hopes of bettering my French as well as learning Cantonese. I’m looking forward to starting, whenever that may be.

Hallo Heathere!!!!!

Hi, I recently received an e-mail and talked to a Macro in Berlin who wanted Advanced ESL (English as a Second Language) tutoring. Is Marco your friend? He is already registered on this Site as a Student? Is your friend a Student on this site?

If it’s not him, I just thought I would ask! It’s great that people in Germany are getting to know Edufire. There is a big market in Europe to Conquer!!!!

Remember this, more Europeans learn Second and Third Languages than Americans.

Ponder this:

….only 13 percent of all Americans even bother to learn a Foreign Language. For those of us who even try to master it the percentages decrease. These are not good numbers for a Country that is trying to compete in the Global Marketplace.

…also 1 out every 16 American CEOS’s can even speak a Foreign Language.

ANYONE WHO KNOWS THE EXACT FIGURES PLEASE PUT OUT IT ON THIS THREAD.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

I know I was on my high horse but I thought would bring up the status of FL Learning in the USA!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to Edufire-Where Foreign Language learning is alive and well……get involved with the forums, take classes, check out our videos, and do the flash cards.

Hi Heather, welcome to eduFire. I look forward to seeing you here! French & Cantonese, what drew you to these particular languages?

Wow those statistics are pretty horrible, where did they come from? Just curious. It is kind of shocking. I did recently stumble onto a news article about an elementary school starting a program to teach ESL to Spanish speaking students, and Spanish to English only students. The responses to the article surprised me. Most of those responding made nasty territorial comments and clearly did not see the value of their kids learning Spanish Immersion beginning in kindergarten. It was tragic to say the least. It really bothered me to see that there were so many who thought this way responding. Sad, society still has a long way to go. I think our schools and our society in general should promote language learning more.
