I wasn’t able to have a class with a student because her voice kept going in and out. Stop and go. Non stop. It made the lesson impossible. We checked it all…..she even bought a new mic. The computer is new. I see the mic icon blinking then it just disappears. Could it be a voice detecting mic ?

Any suggestions? Thank you all so much for helping.

When the student is not talking, sometimes the mic just stop detecting sound. I have 2 solutions for this problem, one is to ask her to switch off her webcam. Usually when this happens to me, switching off webcam will solve the problem. If the problem still continues, then most prob you will have to use skype.

I have had to use Skype sound for my last two 1:1 sessions because of intermittent loss of sound from my pupil when using eduFire ….. this is a new development – sound was fine before last week….

Hey Claudia,

Claire gave some great advice. Audio cut out like this also likely to be when the ‘Silence level’ on the microphone is not set to zero. Have your student(s) go through the audio setup wizard (From the menu at the top right-hand corner….. Meeting > Manage my settings > Audio setup wizard).

When they get to the last screen, instead of clicking ‘Finish’, have then click ‘Advanced’ and slide the silence level slider down to zero. Then click OK then Finish.

That should do it.

In the meantime I definitely recommend you attend a class for teachers as they are full of useful tips and information and you can ask questions.

I am pretty sure that the audio in Edufire is activated by the voice, therefore if nobody is talking there is no audio. I’d suggest to set the volume in high, because if one of the participant’s voice is too low, it won’t activate the audio.
It is kind of different in the beginning, but you get used to it. It is not necessary to use Skype unless one of you don’t have a good connection.
I’d also suggest to close all your other windows while you use Edufire.

I followed Marco’s advice with my student and the sound was then fine – didn’t need to use skype at all! Thanks Marco :)
