Hey People!

I’m starting a new project here in Edufire. I’ve been working for the past 2 years making job interviews and recruiting people now I want to help people do good in their interview and, hopefully, get a job!

Just call me and we’ll talk!

For starters

So what kind of questions do you hate the most in a job interview?

Bye!

The question I hate the most is when employers ask me to name 3 negative things about myself! I know the trick is to find 3 things that could be considered strengths as well. I never can think that fast!!!!! I absolutely HATE interviews. I get so nervous!

I always despise the initial, “Tell me a little about yourself?” I always freeze in the moment….never know what the best answer is.

the silliest question i encounter is; why would you like to work for us? my real answer is that because i need the money, but i can not tell the interviewer that, therefore i have to lie and tell him because you are wonderful successful company but in fact they are not. thanks god i do not have to go to interviews anymore because i run my own business, now, i interview people.

Yah, I have to say I agree with everyone above. I think I have been asked all those questions and I think the one that bugs me the most is the weakness question, it’s kinda like a trick question and I hate beating around the bush!

I always hate the question – Where do you think you will be in 5 years? Considering the economy, chances are the company won’t be around in 5 years. I work in the high tech field.

The other question I find funny is based on the fact that I majored in music and work in computers. The interviewer begins, “I’m sure no one has asked you this before” and I can fill in the rest “how did you switch from music to computers.” Everyone asks me that question.

Yeah, I know what you say Alan, I studied physics before I major in psicology, but, sometimes, you just have to awnser the same questions everytime!

The “where do you think you will be in 5 (10 or more) years” is like “ok, can I thrust you will be here or you just ‘using’ my company to achieve other goals?”.

I agree with Alan. The one question I hate the most is “Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?”. I see this as a dilemma. On one hand I can tell them what they want to hear which is something “Climbing the corporate ladder”. The problem with this answer is that interviewer here these kinds of answers all the time.

On the other hand I can be more honest and say something like “Well I’m sure I will be happy to work here and that you’ll be pleased with my performance for the next 2 to 3 years, but I don’t know enough about the company to have a clear view of where will I be 5 years from now. That is, I don’t if the company will do just as good by then or if I find a better opportunity”. I mean, if I’m happy with my job then there is pretty good chance I’ll stay, but unless I have enough information, I can’t really see that far ahead.

If everyone was honest in their interviews, probably nobody would get a job. I would love to tell my interviewers that I only want to work for them for the money and that in 5 years I’ll likely be somewhere else spending their money. Ahh well, I’ll live I guess, but at this point I would rather be honest.

“If the people who know you were asked why you should be hired, what would they say?”

This is the part of the interview where I would just raise my eyebrow, indicating a “do you really expect me to provide you with an honest answer?” gesture.

“Describe a difficult work situation / project and how you overcame it.”

Isn’t the fact that I overcame it acceptable enough? It’s not like I won’t be trained to assess obstacles in manners you people feel are the most practical and efficient anyway.

“Why should we hire you?”

Oh, I don’t know; it’s not like you/you guys have been relying on your own standards—ones that provide the answers to that very question—for the past….since your company was put into operation. Geez, people. Not EVERYONE has a delusion of superiority/self-interest.

I think my tongue-in-cheek “humor,” as some might consider it, characterizes me as an insincere person.

The comments everyone has written are SO true, I am glad I am not the only one! I hate the question when they say “How would your boss or colleagues describe you?” Errr….. Hot?? haha… just kidding! ;-))
