Any interest in GED classes? These classes will be free and casual. I am interested in trying out ideas and relearning some stuff myself.

Hello my teacher, how are you? May you give me a hint about this kind of test?

Does it mean General Educational Development?

GED is the General Equivalency Diploma. It is the test Americans take to receive a high school diploma if they have not graduated from high school. Most often, they left early.

I live in southern California and have a nephew who is in his early twenties and never finished high school. He has looked into taking his GED and has learned that it will cost a minimum of $300.00 to take this test due to new rules in California requiring a pre-test be taken prior to taking the test. This most often requires a prep course as well, or so I have been told.

A course in preparing for the GED may help many students prepare to take the equivalency test. In most states, an applicant for even a junior college needs to have either a GED or diploma. In this time of economic turmoil, with the proper type of marketing you may find a profitable endeavor!

Good luck developing such a class.

Sad but true…. my friend we here in America can profit off ignorance….what a cruel irony

Hi Alan,
Great idea. I focus on math and have had GED students as well. Perhaps we may collaborate on joint classes – you may focus on English/ social science and I on math/ science?
But I would prefer paid classes though I am all for keeping the cost at reasonable level. Let me know what you think.
best,
Kamal

@ Samantha – I don’t see that charging $300 is profiting off of ignorance. If that were the case, then anyone who charges for teaching would be guilty. I paid $2100 to take a course and certify to become an ESL teacher. Before that, I was ignorant of teaching ESL. I paid for a product that the school offered. Certainly, one can argue about the value of a procedure in both terms of money and its relevancy. That however, is different than profiting off of ignorance. Plus, I’m sure what you refer to as “profiting off of ignorance” is done in many countries.

@ Kamal, I like your idea. Let’s go for it. We can charge a reasonable fee and I can create a group for my experimental ideas.

Great Alan. So lets discuss offline and maybe set up a free 30/60 minute trial class; and then for those interested they can join regular classes on weekends?
