The parts of speech explains the ways words can be used in various contexts. Every word in the English language functions as at least one part of speech; many words can serve, at different times, as two or more parts of speech, depending on the context. Learning about the parts of speech is the first step in grammar study just as learning the letters of the alphabet is the first step to being able to read and write. From learning the parts of speech, we begin to understand the use or function of words and how words are joined together to make meaningful communication. To understand what a part of speech is, you must understand the idea of putting similar things together into groups or categories. After this course, you should be able to identify the basic parts of speech in a sentence and also be able to dissect them out of each. 15 students have already signed up, so get your seat before they’re gone! |

Looking good. Even though I’m busy with other things, I’m trying to keep a close eye on other tutors’ classes to see what students are checking out. After all, it’s hard to know from a distance what people are learning at home about parts of speech and grammar in general. Anyone who needs a good explanation of this should check Austin out; he’s a seasoned, effective teacher. |
