@Ask The Brazilians

A program where the talk is all about Portuguese language stuff. The doors are opened to all levels. Feel like a Brazilian chatter box? Excellent! So, what’s your question of the day? : )

I hope to meet you soon.

Gente, queria saber se alguém poderia me ajudar com a análise sintática da frase: passou-se muito tempo. Obrigada.

Enrique Kates

Angie! Como vai? I haven’t heard from you in a few days. Tudo bem?

Enrique Kates

Angie! Actually, at the beginning you sounded NASAL…after rocking a bit, your voice was fine

Angela Matos

Enique, with this cold, your phrase below should be more along the lines of “Angela’s nazalization”. : ( . Anyways thank you for being my co-host. : )

Enrique Kates

One more day for the rocks and AngeLA’S intonation….

Angela Matos

Welcome new members!!

Enrique Kates

Ahh Pedro, meu amigo, obrigado. That’s what I wanted to know….

Pedro Del Picchia

@Enrique you must obbey the gender, when you say about a man is allways with O and woman is A. So Angie is my friend so “Angie é minha amiga”, If you talk about a guy you say “Enrique é meu amigo”.
The male for “minha” is “meu”.

Enrique Kates

Angie! If you’re minha amiga. I’m your “minhO amigo”??

Angela Matos

That’s right amigo Enrique: “aula” is the cuprit “false friend”.

Enrique Kates

Ohh, so AULA IS a “false friend”!!!

Angela Matos

Exactly:
In Portuguese
aula= class
classroom=classe or “sala de aula” literally meaning classroom).

: )

Enrique Kates

AngelA. Sorry, pero nao entendi!
aula in spanish is the classroom. I mean the physical space. The construcion. The roof and four walls.

Angela Matos

wow, this is a good one:
a classe=the classroom. Bom dia, classe!
a aula= the class. A aula de hoje e: adjetivos.

Enrique Kates

Angie! Is this another "False Friend?
aula = classroom in spanish.
Aula is the ROOM, not the class. Of course, a class is given inside an AULA…..usually.
