And introduction: I studied Technical Writing and worked for some years as one, creating manuals, brochures, press releases, presentations, training material. So, non-fictional writing is pretty much what I do.
I think, I’ll write an article on the content-structure-format-triangle I often use when working on a new document or getting stuck while creating one.
Any other article requests?
Hello Everyone! Wonderful to be a part of the EduBreakfast Club. As a high school English teacher, I am the BIGGEST fan of non-fiction and its quirks and queries. Cheers, Mo
Hi! It’s great that people continue to join the group. It’d be great, too, if we all ever decided what to do with the groups, as they tend not to be dynamic. I’ll be able to do more when groups have more functionality; e.g., I’d like annotated links. What other features do people want to see in groups?
What are we going to do with groups to make them more useful and interactive? I’ve got a couple of ideas. Suggestions, anybody?
Have you all noticed that most of the groups haven’t really taken off? I’m thinking that it’s hard for people to find reason to participate in groups. I hope that we’ll cook up some new ways soon that groups can work for us.
Thanks, Debbie. For eduBreakfast I’ll send you avocado & tomato quesadillas with fresh lime & cilantro, served on plates made of old 45 rpm Beatles’ records. :)
I am looking forward to your next class DJ! http://edufire.com/classes/265-songs-lyrics-early-rock-n-roll-the-beatles
What is for breakfast by the way? ;)
Welcoming in the New Year with live music by my fave cosmic americana band.
Happy New Year, everyone!
(Re. yesterday’s class on songs & lyrics of The Beatles)
While eduFirers are willing to examine writing devices used to craft song lyrics, we all want to sample more songs first! And why not? Who can resist great music, especially when some of it’s being played live. . . .
Still, I hope that people will think a bit about writing devices used in lyrics. Here’s a partial list:
• Wordplay, especially puns
• Slang and insider jargon
• Metaphor and simile
• Euphemism
Anybody want to talk about metaphors and similes in creative nonfiction? . . . Song lyrics are one fun way to talk about these writing elements. I hope you’ll join some of my classes on Beatles’ songs & lyrics. You may just listen and enjoy, or you may want to contribute your interpretations to the discussions! :)
Nice to see some new faces. Hey, nice to see old faces too. :) I guess we’re not doing much writing at the moment, eh? But surely we are eating. How about some nice, warming winter recipes?
Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, 7:04 AM EST (12:04 UT), marks the solstice — the shortest day of the year here in the northern hemisphere and the beginning of winter.
Ohh I see now, this group is actually very interesting. I wasn’t sure what the group was about anymore to be honest. but I am now looking foward to participating in this group’s activities in the near future. : ) Thank you for creating this goup here on edufire, DJ-san!!
Hello everybody !!
i’m just join this group and it’s so great for me to be here .
what is the subject !!
Is anybody having time for edu or breakfast this month? Sandra seems to be involved in epic Net connection battle. . . . Tina’s looking forward to the New Year, as am I. . . . Enrique could cook up some interesting breakfasts, but how’s he going to deliver the results to us?
I agree. I hope to be more involved in this group after the holidays! Looking forward to it!
This group thing is going to work a lot better when we can have annotations, or descriptions, for our group’s links. Nobody can tell what links are on a group’s page. . . .
Any good breakfast ideas for this month? December gets me in the spirit to even have different things for breakfast!
