Idea: Registered users get reminder alerts as soon as they log into the site

Currently when I visit the site I am already logged in, and it would be nice if I could get reminders/alerts that greet me as soon as I visit the site or log into the site. For example when I visit www.edufire.com and log in, or am logged in alerts will pop up to let me know I have new messages, or unread posts in the forums, or even missed classes, or upcoming classes.

As long as the user has an option to turn them off, it's fine with me. I think I'd get bugged by all the alerts all the time.

Or even a landing page that would list notifications. Great idea!

I guess it would not have to be a pop up so much as a box that says you have a class in 2 hours, 1 messages, 2 friend requests...and such. Like a notification box.
