Idea: Payment should be made at time of Class Booking

Students booking for a paid Class should have to pay the class fee when they book.

This will promote a culture where prepayment is normal behaviour and mean that tutors do not need to choose prepay or not (this ceases to be a matter of how trusting tutors appear). It will also stop students from booking and then casually not turning up.

For occasions where students have a really good reason for not turning up, a voucher could be issued for a future class with that tutor, at the tutors discretion.

Sounds reasonable and obvious to me too:-)

That's the way to do it. If they don't show up, no refunds!

That's the way the "real world" works, and even most of the Internet! I think it's great, and I voted for it.

I was just going to ask Marco if I could prepay for my tutoring sessions so you definitely have my vote!

I agree. We need to do a better job here. We've had a # of people tell us that they want to pay for their class right away but can't figure out how to do it. This is something we will definitely take a longer look into.

Yes, I agree like everyone else, (see my FAQ in the forums). I thought that pre-payment was a great idea until I realised that even with required prepayment, the student does not necessarily pay or turn up! Potentially wasted time and lesson plans just for nothing! So, EduFire, when do you think we will see a reform in this system? Any concrete timescales or dates? Thx. Tom

As good as it sounds, we have to think of what is in the student's head: What if I pay for a class and the tutor doesn't show? What if the class doesn't teach what it advertises? Ecommerce doesn't have the regulations and protections that a bricks-n-mortar business does. So people will be reluctant to use the ecommerce site if there isn't adequate protection in the system for both parties. To throw an idea in the air, how about using and escrow like getafreelancer.com? Student puts the money in an escrow account but it doesn't get used until the deal is done and everybody is satisfied. Edufire might be able to charge more for this service and earn a little interest on the money being moved.

It's a great GREAT IDEA,because before entering a class seeing 10 registered and after entering there is none , it's so irritating, and advance payment at the time of booking a class in NORMAL.So please go for it.And I WANT THIS CHANGE TOO 300%

I agree sure, because this problem happened many times to me.

That awesome, because it's not right for a teacher to go through preparing a lesson and then no one shows up. They should be compensated for their effort. No show/ no refund. I'm sure it will make people more accountable also.
