Idea: Show Age/Grade Level

Students of different ages and in different levels may want tutoring in the same subject, such as “English” or “Algebra”. But the classes should be very different for different age students and students in different educational levels. Currently there is not distinction.

I suggest showing the students age or grade level for K-12 students and show “University” or “Adult” for post K-12 students on the student’s profile page.

Interesting idea - might be some legal implications behind it we'd have to look into, but will keep this idea in mind.

I'd imagine that any legal implications would be in displaying the age of minors. If there are any, might using an indicator of "Elementary", "Middle School/High School", "University", or "Adult" get around these issues by not specifying their age, while still providing the information in a useful way?

how about ... M - Minors (questionable due to legal implications) T- Teens A - Adults ESP - English for Specific Purposes

I suggest that a dual structure could solve this problem: (a) on the teacher's side, we could characterize our intended audience, where applicable, as age, gender, professional field, area of expertise, etc., and (b) on the student side, they could opt to subscribe to a group, even if they are not the expectaed age or gender. I may be an old male who likes cooking, and may subscribe to a [typically] young wives' group.

... this idea could be combined with this one: http://edufire.com/ideas/723
