Tutor
Hello!
Welcome to my eduFire profile!
My name is Sandra and I live in Romania, Europe.
I am currently a second-year university student, majoring in English with a minor in Latin at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures.
In my spare time, I love to read (anything from classic nineteen century novels to contemporary literature, especially fantasy), to listen to good-quality music (including symphonic metal and the Opera), to hang out with my friends both in person and online, and to travel… whenever I get the chance! I am passionate about all things concerned with Classical Antiquity – mythology, ancient history, Greek and Latin literature and archaeology.
I dream of one day becoming a successful teacher/professor of linguistics and maybe a translator on the side… Until then, I love to tutor online and help other people with the problems they may face when learning either Latin or Romanian. Here on eduFire I offer both individual lessons and classes.
ROMANIAN

A complex and beautiful Romance language spoken by almost 25 million people, Romanian is the official language of two countries – Romania and the Republic of Moldova – and it also functions as one of the 23 working languages of the European Union.
Compared to the other Romance languages, Romanian is more archaic and therefore more difficult (it preserves some older grammar structures from Latin), but its “special flavour” makes it an interesting language to study. If for whatever reasons you want to learn Romanian, please contact me!
LATIN

A view of the Roman Forum, Rome, April 2007
The most popular Classical language ever, Latin is the ancient language of Rome. It is an important representative of the Indo-European language family and the ancestor of modern Romance languages like Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese or Romanian.
During the time of the Roman Empire, it was the official language of a wide part of the known world (most of Europe, Asia Minor and the North of Africa). Even if it ceased to be spoken, Latin defied ages by remaining a language of culture and science and the ecclesiastical langage of the Catholic Church.
If you want to learn a Romance language, some notions of Latin would be very useful! You might also need it if you’re interested in linguistics, law, medicine or theology. But above this, studying Latin is a great intellectual challenge in itself!
One-to-many sessions:
Until now, I have organized two Latin-related classes:

and

I will continue to offer these classes from time to time, for free; I also plan to hold other classes on mottos, Classical mythology, Latin literature and maybe even grammar demystification!
Other than being a tutor, I am also a student on eduFire (here’s my other account) and I generally love making friends online, so feel free to drop me a line, even if you don’t have any intention of studying with me! :)
Romanian is my native language, and I have a very good command of grammar and spelling.
Although I don’t have a degree in it YET, I think my Latin is good enough to enable me to share my knowledge.
I have been studying it since high-school, and took part in (and occasionally won) many different Latin contests, both national and international.
Sandra is very patient and knowlegable. The lessons are very structured and easy to follow. The follow up lessons always contain material that was previoulsy studied. The homework assignments she gives are very challenging and relevant to the lesson.
Sandra knows what here is to know about Latin and its influences on just about everything! Contact her to learn more!
Sandra was very professional and was well prepared with the lesson. I enjoyed the slides that she presented. The lesson was easy to follow and was put together in an orderly manner. She was very patient and made very good use of our time together. I would reccomend her to others that want to learn or improve on their Romanian.
She was absolutely GREAT! Her explanations were pretty clear and I do think I learned A LOT in our class. Latin is a beautiful language ans Sandra is really patient and she motivates her student a lot. She's a great tutor that feels really happy seeing her student's improvements, she does care about it. Just loved her class, and I'm looking forward for our next session! =]
Sandra really knows her Latin! If you need help with this or Romanian you wouldn't go far wrong with Sandra.
Sandra takes the time to break down everything to your speed. She is an amazing tutor. I really appreciated her professional and clear instruction. Her command of the language is quite impressive!
