About Me

Originally from Vancouver Island, Canada, I’ve been in Japan for the last 18 years. I work at a university here, but I’m also doing a fair bit of work writing textbooks and so on. So I’m in Japan most of the year, but I do most of my writing by a beach somewhere in SE Asia — Thailand, Philippines, Bali or any other place that is hot, cheap and with good food!

The languages I want to study are usually of the countries I visit — not for work or anything like that. I find that speaking some of the language in a country makes a huge difference in overall positive experience during travel.

Here in Japan, I like to try to work out when possible, I ride my bike by the beach when it’s not raining, and of course, I love going out for Japanese food!
