Tutor
All my life I have known that helping people was what I excelled at. I never wanted riches or fame, just to make a difference in the world. I went from wanting to be a teacher, to a preacher, to a social scientist, to a non-profit organizer. Now I have devoted a year of my life to serving AmeriCorps in Minneapolis/ St. Paul, Minnesota where I work hard to help immigrants, refugees, asylees find and keep jobs within the Minnesota Welfare to Work system. I have also volunteered over 200 hours at a NPO devoted to addressing language and cultural barriers for Western North Carolina’s foreign born population. Through my experience as an ESL tutor, my education in the area of sociology, and a personal interest in other cultures and the respect and gratitude for what other cultures can offer the United States, my local community and me personally, I strive to engage in culturally enriched communities, to offer my support in the longevity of cross-cultural understanding and the programs that facilitate such understanding, and to fight for the rights of those who simply desire to enjoy the freedoms of a nation made up of immigrants, emigrants and migrants alike.
