I am Latina, with grandparents from Mexico. My family did not speak Spanish with me when I was young because of the importance of English in our daily lives. I am now learning Spanish as a part of appreciating my heritage. I think the language is beautiful and hope to soon be able to read literary works and speak with the elderly here in Texas. My conversation and listening skills still need a whole lot of work. I still understand almost nothing on Spanish news programs.I am a student in deep South Texas (Rio Grande Valley).
