Tutor
As of November 19th, 2009, my rates have been lowered. All classes are now $10, regardless of subject.
Here’s a little bit of background on me: I’ve been into web design as long as there has been a web for the masses (roundabout 1995.) What once started out as a hobby quickly became an obsession, and finally, a career. I really enjoy designing and developing web sites. Seeing them come together is really an accomplishment, and being able to express yourself online is a truly amazing freedom in this day and age.
I am not a teacher by trade, nor have I ever been. I have never taken a class on web design or development. All of the things I have learnedd have been self-taught over the years, and I’ve never had to spend money to learn it. That said, I also don’t have the bad habits that most teachers these days in schools are teaching their students.
Leave your WYSIWYG editors at the door! Lessons will be hands-on, and will require you to be familar with a standard text editor. Stay away from tools such as Dreamweaver. Let your browser be your preview. What you see in your editor preview may not always be what you get!
Forget what you know! If you do know some web design already, chances are that you learned it from a bad site, such as w3schools, from a school where the teacher forces you to learn the wrong way of doing things, or from an outdated book. Technology changes so quickly, and the web is no exception. What once was acceptable a decade ago is now deprecated and obsolete.
I will add other languages to my profile as soon as I am confidant that I can provide the best learning experience for students. I do know a few other languages that aren’t listed here, but expect more to be added over time.
Below is my calendar so that you can see if I’ve got a session coming up with another student and when I’m available. This will help you to plan your own session(s) with me
There are plenty of other excellent teachers out there, and if you can find someone better than myself, by all means, choose them instead. I can only hope that what you learn from me will stick with you, and even if I’ve only taught you one small thing, that’s one thing you didn’t know yesterday. Learning is a lifelong process, and just because I’m also a teacher here doesn’t mean I’ve stopped learning.
If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you all soon!

Steve is an awesome Tutor, and has taught me so much! I really enjoy my sessions, and always come out of the sessions with a wealth of knowledge!
He was very informative. He made HTML seem very easy to do. Even though we just got through the basics, I learned a lot. He answered all my questions and explained things in depth when I needed them explained more. He is an excellent tutor and I can't wait for our next session. I'll have something to show him (I hope). : )
Steve was great. He addressed my questions and got me started with a basic foundation in html. I am looking forward to future classes.
This guy's smart, and a good teacher. Not too many teachers like Steven around! If you want to learn PHP or HTML, he's a great option!
