Wanderlust. I’d had it for quite some time- The intense desire to see the world I had previously read about. This past summer I finally gave into temptation and took off for Europe where I found the opportunity to develop relationships abroad an incredibly inspiring experience. In past years I’d traveled and taught in Hong Kong, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the United States, but something about the Spain/England/Portugal experience opened my mind to the world of international education. After teaching in the mountains of southern Spain, I returned to the states and accepted a position teaching English to international university students in New York City. The experience kayaking a bioluminescent bay in Puerto Rico, cliff jumping the mountains of southern Spain, and crunching a meal of fried chicken feet in Hong Kong were nothing compared to the energy in a room full of Turkish, Russian, Spanish, German, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Saudi Arabian students. I absolutely love teaching international students and learning about the world beyond!
I hold certification in TESOL (teaching English as a second or other language), a Bachelor’s degree in English and education, and Minnesota state licensure in Communication Arts and Literature (high school English).
