Veer is Director and Co-founder of Energy Inside which is creating the ‘Emotion Web’, a new segment focused on harnessing the emotional and psychological relevance of media. Emotional relevance is a personal assessment of an experience. Media delivered using computational models that are scientifically and psychologically grounded can have a targeted emotional impact on an individual. An important outcome of this is a novel mental health delivery system to help people cope more effectively, be more resilient and achieve greater emotional well-being. Through an ontology of psychological states, a commonsense reasoning system and a learning recommendation engine, Energy Inside delivers social media micro-interventions that are intended to shift mindset when a person needs it most. Micro-interventions can be pieces of media or they can be interactive exercises that are cognitive or action-oriented. They are derived from empirically supported psychological practices and are fresh, resonant and engaging.
Veer is Director and Co-founder of Humanity Calls. Over 1.9 million nonprofits are registered in the United States alone. Regardless of their passion and commitment to giving back, donors are overwhelmed by choice. It is difficult to sift through the enormous volume of information to find the “right” cause or organization to support. Humanity Calls (HC) addresses this through a brand new model – loosely described as Kiva meets the X Prize (or, perhaps – Wikipedia meets United Way). HC represents the world’s first platform where crowds of people assemble online to evaluate charities and make donations to those organizations which perform best. Much as Wikipedia relies on users to create a free encyclopedia, HC relies on the collective wisdom of many individuals to research and then vote on which nonprofit organizations are most relevant at any given moment. Every quarter, a new vote is taken, HC announces the portfolio of the most pressing nonprofits in the world, and the next fundraising campaign begins. Humanity Calls has been in development for nearly 2.5 years, completely powered by the volunteer efforts of a worldwide team of almost 50 individuals: entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, marketers, branding experts, designers, professionals of all stripes. The platform is scheduled for launch in early 2010.
